This Day In Ellen History


On this day in 1958, at 1:38 PM, at the Ochsner Hospital in Metairie Louisiana, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born. The clouds parted, birds could be heard singing and a rainbow was seen for miles.

On this day in 1967, Ellen got a bicycle for her birthday. She wanted a pony. Ellen ended up naming her bicycle Mr. Ed and could be seen pretending to feed it carrots in it's stall in the garage.

On this day in 2006, President William Jefferson Clinton made a surprise video appearance on Ellen's show and wished her a sincere happy birthday.

On this day in 2008, Ellen is celebrating a very happy 50th birthday. She was very touched and was seen yesterday thanking everyone for making it so special.

Happiest Birthday Wishes Ellen!
I truly hope this year will be full of wonderful experiences, happiness, and joy for you and Portia. I've been a fan of yours for years (I really liked the sitcom "Ellen" gosh back in 1994ish and also The Ellen Show sitcom back in 2001) and I am very happy to see how successful you've become...you really do deserve it and much more. I have to admit that I'm turning 50 later this year and I do have trepidations about it. I'm just glad that not EVERYONE knows I'll be turning 50 like they know you are ...LOL. smiling here. Enjoy the day and thank you for bringing so many smiles and laughs to us when times seem so very difficult to endure. XOXOXO Jan
Btw I think your mom Betty is great! I love the story you told of how she told you to get out there and do the show ...the fans needed someone to cheer them up and get them to think about something for an hour...just some time not to think about their problems...boy was she right...you really do help me get through a difficult day and watching/listening to you has been and continues to be greatly appreciated. My 12 yr. old son and I watch you ever day after school. You make us both laugh and just feel up lifted. A much needed feeling...thank you for being real and keeping it "nice" to everyone you touch.

From a fellow woman soon to be 50 yr. old in September! Keep celebrating all year...it's great to be alive really after all...don't you think! Tani (pronounced Tawney) first time ever doing something like this with someone famous!

Happy, happy birthday Ellen. I just turned 50 in November and my kids teased me about being excited about my AARP card. We laughed so hard when you got yours!!! We love your show. You bring smiles and joy and happiness to all who watch. I love your random acts of kindness to people who would not have a chance to experience some of the things you do for them. Happy 50th birthday!!!!! I watch your show every day with my 5 year old-Savannah and my 7 mos old- Ashlyn. Savannah always sings to your intro music and always waits to see if you will go over the table. We love you!
