This Day In Ellen History

On this day in 1958, at 1:38 PM, at the Ochsner Hospital in Metairie Louisiana, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born. The clouds parted, birds could be heard singing and a rainbow was seen for miles.

On this day in 1967, Ellen got a bicycle for her birthday. She wanted a pony. Ellen ended up naming her bicycle Mr. Ed and could be seen pretending to feed it carrots in it's stall in the garage.

On this day in 2006, President William Jefferson Clinton made a surprise video appearance on Ellen's show and wished her a sincere happy birthday.

On this day in 2008, Ellen is celebrating a very happy 50th birthday. She was very touched and was seen yesterday thanking everyone for making it so special.

On this day in 1977 at 5:40 pm I gave birth to a gorgeous bronze baby boy whom I believed would do great things. Unfortunately, his life was cut short in 1997 at the age of 19. On this day in 2008 he should have turned 30, but it was not meant to be. I so wanted to find a way to spend his birthday with you as I knew that only you could find a way to make me laugh on this special day. Unfortunately, I was just diagnosed with breast cancer and there was no way that I would have been able to make it to CA from FL. You have been putting smiles on my face since your very first show. Even when I am feeling life has dealt me more than I can handle, I just turn on The Ellen Show and you have a way of making me put aside the bad times and lifting my spirits higher than I thought possible. I wished you a very happy birthday along with my beautiful son, Trevor on your special day.

Don't worry old girl...it may be all down hill from here on but it is much easier. Like taking your feet off the peddles and steering exactly the direction you intend with ease: it all goes faster to be true but the ride, it's all good.

I mean by the time we turn fifty we either know who we are or we are so oblivious we have stopped caring. Either way it's a win, win.

So enjoy your fifties. And be happy. The sixties will be here before you know it!

Listen, in all truth life is precious. Enjoy every minute of it. Every second. Doing any less and it is like stealing and shutting away the very best of what you can think and be: nothing can replace a moment lost. A loving, encouraging word said, and love shared.

So Happy Birthday. Have way too much fun.

Jenn

Happy Belated 50th Ellen,
You are my biggest hero. You, my friend bring me laughter with your sensational humor & presence. You must get a ton of fan mail - but there is nobody who loves & appreciates you more (exept maybe your close friends & family). I have been following your career for a very long time. I have you on video tape from the early 90's. Your humor & your charm is what's captivated me. The way you came out 10 years ago on your sitcom was both courageous & witty. You bring a smile to my face every single day that I watch you. ( I have been trying to get tickets to your show for the past 4 years & I'm not so sure how it works. It's very difficult.)
You deserve all of lifes greatest gifts & another 50 years.
Your Biggest Fan,
Joe Liseno Jr.

Happy Belated Birthday Ellen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Ellen - we are BOTH 50 years old now! I've just worked out you are only 13 & 1/2 hours older than me!!! How's that?!!! I had my 50th Birthday dinner on Sat 26th Jan here in Adelaide, Australia and, as promised, we all raised our glasses and toasted a Very Happy Birthday to YOU ELLEN. Hope you had a really fantastic day, coz I sure did...and had many laughs and got some fabulous presents. Thanx for the laughs-you're as mad as me - we make a right pair...must be something about that time when we were born, huh?!

Thanks a million times over for the joy and laughter you bring to my life and so many others. Keep on going strong!

Hope your birthday was wonderful! You did let Ryan use the marker for your Bingo game, didn't you?!

I pray people listened to you when you said to be "who you are" and not what others want you to be. Always stay "real"! You're deeply loved and appreciated.

HEY ELLEN!!

HAPPY 50th AND MANY MORE!

JUST GOT BACK FROM VEGAS AT 1:00 AM THIS MORNING AND THANK GOD FOR DVR's, SO I CAN KEEP AN EYE ON YOU.

EVEN ON A NORMAL DAY, I HAVE TO WATCH YOUR SHOW A DAY LATER, DUE TO BUSY SCHEDULE, BUT I LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

SO YOU ASK...WHY WERE YOU IN VEGAS INSTEAD OF WATCHING MY BIRTHDAY SHOW, WELL...I WILL TELL YOU. MY HUSBAND GAVE ME A "WORLD SERIES OF POKER" ACADEMY WITH ANNIE DUKE, FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT. IT WAS 2 DAYS WITH ANNIE (she holds a WSOP bracelet, which I am sure you know)TO LEARN ABOUT NO-LIMIT TEXAS HOLD'EM. THERE IS A IS A LOT MORE TO THE GAME OF POKER THAN I THOUGHT. NO...I DON'T PLAY LIVE POKER TABLES, BECAUSE I LACK CONFIDENCE and KNOWLEDGE. MY HUSBAND SEEMS TO THINK THIS COURSE WOULD HELP and THAT I COULD BE A GOOD PLAYER. WELL...MAYBE SOMEDAY...BUT NOT YET. LOL

PLEASE KEEP GIVING SO MUCH JOY AND LAUGHTER TO THE WORLD...IT MAKES THIS PLACE A MUCH BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN.

YOUR FRIEND, FROM THE COLD STATE OF MICHIGAN (at least for a couple more months..lol)

DARLENE

PS: IT SURE LOOKED LIKE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL 50th BIRTHDAY, SORRY I COULDN'T BE THERE! LOL:o)

Happy belated birthday Ellen,

Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your show very much every day on my way home from work.

I tune in at 5pm on my car radio and listen to you and your guests and sometimes I can even visualize in my mind what's happening on the show by the audience's applause and screaming.

Any way, I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Take care,
Marilyn

one year when my son was turning 13 i thought i recognized fear and a little embarrassment when the kids and i sang him happy birthday in front of his friends. this does seem at the same time a time of looking for alternative communication choices to get the young teens attention. I INVENTED musical day. If I(being the parent )recognized a bad attitude i I would call the new day musical day , IF YOU DON'T SING YOUR WORDS WE CAN'T HEAR YOU. Sometimes as parents we forget how hard THOSE TEEN AGE yeras can be/ don't forget to use them to your advantage. oh yea Jeeses friends loved musical dya they would pop into thier opera voices and join right in to jesses amazment. just one of my favorate birthday memories. my favorite hobby is manipulating young people. I have four of my own and I have found them to be very entertaining. happy life Ellen. thank you for being like that.
