This Day In Ellen History

On this day in 1958, at 1:38 PM, at the Ochsner Hospital in Metairie Louisiana, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born. The clouds parted, birds could be heard singing and a rainbow was seen for miles.

On this day in 1967, Ellen got a bicycle for her birthday. She wanted a pony. Ellen ended up naming her bicycle Mr. Ed and could be seen pretending to feed it carrots in it's stall in the garage.

On this day in 2006, President William Jefferson Clinton made a surprise video appearance on Ellen's show and wished her a sincere happy birthday.

On this day in 2008, Ellen is celebrating a very happy 50th birthday. She was very touched and was seen yesterday thanking everyone for making it so special.

Ellen,
Happy 50th . I must say you have reached a milestone. I just celebrated my 67th yesterday.
Aquarians are good people. We are fun and loving people and care about one another.
Some famous Aquarians are Oprah and Alan Alda.
I watch you as much as I can as I still work full time.
Just to let you know my Mother and Father if they were still alive would have celebrated their 72nd Anniversary on January 26.
Ken Gulko, Van Nuys Ca.

Watched your show today during which you shared with us your 50th birthday activities! You have great friends who planned such a great weekend for you!
Just wanted to share with you my great 70th birthday this past weekend also, (Jan. 27) planned by my fantastic daughter who does everything above and beyond. (She planned and carried out along with her 2 sibilings a wonderful surprise 65th for me but this one topped that one.)
I flew from my home in Florida on Friday to meet her in Denver where all the activities took place. The evening of my arrival she had a vase of beautiful fresh flowers and a "bucket full of surprises". Among several items in the bucket were two small bags of letters that spelled out the activity for the following day. The first day was "s-k-y-d-i-v-i-n-g"!!!! This activity was to occur after we went to the movie "The Bucket List"! (Fantastic movie!) Thank heaven, the skydiving was one of the indoor skydiving places but what a wonderful time we had.
The 2nd-day word puzzle spelled out "s-n-o-w-m-o-b-i-l-i-n-g"! Yes, we went up into the Rockies for 2 hours of snowmobiling - going from 9000 ft. to 12000 ft. What a beautiful day for such beautiful scenery!
In between these activities we enjoyed some fantastic food in the area.
Now this weekend was somewhat of a challenge for me since I was going from 0 ft. sea level to 12000 ft. and I have had both knees replaced since 2003. It was just by coincidence that at least one of those activities was on my "bucket list".
This was a weekend that I will never forget and am so grateful for April's (daughter) creativity
and her thoughtfulness.
Thanks for opportunity to share this with you.

Happy Belated Birthday Ellen!!

Dear Ellen !
Happy Belated Birthday. I didn't forget it, i was too bussy preparing my father for his trip back Europe, so I wasn't able to see the show. No TiVo to tape it :). That night I had a dream, I was at your birthday party. You've got tons of amazing gifts ( which I'm sure You did) , and than there was this beautiful box of chocolates from the QUEEN OF FRANCE ?!?!?!?! I didn't know there is one, but she is sure a BIG fan of Yours, and why wouldn't she be?
Anyways HAppy birthday from me & my sons ( Bence & Attila) who are dance-fan of Yours, and from Queen of France :)

Dear Ellen,

I love your show and also, love you very much. You make me laugh. I understand that you don't have time to read and reply to all your Emails but, if possible please send me your address with your favourite color, so i can knit you a Scarf. You knit lots of hearts with lots of laughter everyday. My small introduction- My name is Laika Makkar, i have been in united states for about 4 and half years. I had a very rough childhood and i was brought here in united states for another hidden reason by my own mother. I stood up and stayed strong, she left me here alone. Slowly and gradually things have gotten better and im very grateful to god and his angels in this living world. We all have problems in life and they do make us strong and give us understanding of life. I sure have learnt alot at this age and am very grateful. I feel rich inside myself even when i dont very much money. But, i have dreams and desires and soon, they will take shape if i choose to stand by them persistently. I wish i can inspire people like you do. I RESPECT YOU VERY MUCH AND PRAY TO GOD FOR YOUR WELL-BEING. It will be my pleasure to meet you someday. Until then, stay the same cherful Ellen- Just as you are. Your Friend in spirit- Laika

Hi Ellen.. who thought I would actually sit here and send you a message. I actually met you once, in New York. Yes, I was there on a short vacation and walked to Rockerfeller Center and watched the Today Show and there you were! It was so exciting and I was able to shake hands with you! I will always remember that. I love my DVR, as now I can just watch your show on my own time. When I come home from work and once I am done with the cleaning, dinner, etc., I am ready to watch my two favortie shows "All My Children and The Ellen Show". I know I will always laugh and this just kind of erases all the tension I had for the day and just lets me forget all the bad things, even if for a while. I think it is just great, the kind things that you do for people. Sometimes, it only takes one person to let them show their stuff and wham! I hope you continue to keep your shows going for a very long time and I hope to be able to see an actual live show someday (but I want to go when you give away some great stuff, ha ha)!
Wishing you a wonderful Belated Birthday!

Keep on dancin...............

Happy Belated Birthday Ellen!!! You are a special person with a special gift from God in making others laugh. I turned 50 last March 23, 07!! I share my birthday with my mom and dad, though they are both gone to heaven now. But we had special birthdays. Just wish I would have appreciated them more when my parents were here with me, but I was young and stupidly wanted to party on my birthday. Now I would give anything to have those days when we could all 3 be together!! We had a unique bond with all of our birthdays on the same day. Then my daughter was born just 10 days earlier on March 13, 1975.
Our days March 23, 1923 dad
March 23, 1926 mom
March 23, 1957 me
March 13, 1975 my daughter
Just wanted to share my special day with you.
Have a happy 50th year and thanks for being YOU. You make everyone's life who watches you a bit more happy. Thank you and God Bless

Dear Ellen,
I have wanted to write you for a long time, but never knew what to say. I am mostly writting for my mom who loves your show so much, she canceled all pay channels so she could afford a DVR to record your show so she can watch it over and over. She is disabled, and spends about 70-80% of her time in bed due to severe back problems. She has had 8 surgeries now on her back and it just keeps getting worse. She does not want our family (of 4 sons, and 5 grandchildren) to know how much pain she is in, and some of the terrible things that have happened to her. She was abused by my ex-father for 9 years before she finally got brave enough to leave him. He is part of the reason her back is so bad. In Nov 07 she was finally awarded Social Security Disabilty even though she is only 46. The day she got her back disabilty check (she was fighting for over 4 years), she went Christmas shopping for the first time in 5 years. She bought Barbies for the granddaughters, and she had gotten me a PS3 with Guitar Hero that I had really wanted and and laptop and Wii for herself along with other gifts for my brothers and sisters in law. She had even gotten a playstation portable and some games for herself because she spends so much time in bed. She really needed the laptop, as it is the only way she has to talk to my brother and sister in law in Germany. Well, she had stopped at the grocery store, and she was afraid to carry her purse in with her because she had all her cash with her, as the bank had closed and she could not deposit the rest of her back pay. Someone saw all the stuff in the back of our car, and broke in the window. They took her purse, and all the gifts and things she had gotten for the house. When she came out of the store and saw what had happened, she drove home and never said a word to me. When I asked her a few days later about the car, she broke down. When I asked why she did not call the police, she said they would not have believed she could be so stupid and would think she was lying. Ellen, I am only 23, and I do not work so I can take care of my mom. I do most of the housework, cooking, laundry, and yard work. Mom cries all the time now because she is so depressed. She feels like she gave me a rotten Christmas, and I worry about her. She takes so much meds, I worry she may get too depressed and end her life, but I don't think she would because she loves her sons and grandbabies, and there are 2 more of them on the way.
I know it would make her day (if not life) if you could drop her an email. She would be blown away and I know she wrote you before your birthday, and I think she would just think you were responding to her birthday wishes. Her name is Dianna Carmack. She has been watching you since I was a little boy and loves everything about you. She says if she looks half as good as you at 50, she will only look 70. lol.
Thanks for the time, and you have a wonderful year full of bringing cheer to all of us.

Ellen,

Hope you had a great birthday. I sent you a little something, and wondering if you ever got it.?.? I sent it in plenty of time to get to you but I have no idea about studio life so maybe its in the mail room. Hope you get it and love it.

Happy belated Birthday Ellen.....of course you look great! I just recently got DVR, I love it becaue I can record your shows everyday, instead of only when I am home sick. I enjoy you tremendously, my youngest son will be 17 on 02-04 and he also enjoys your show. I told him I am rying to get tickets to your show he said he would love to go but doesn't want to be the only male, I have to keep rewinding the audience to show him there ARE other males in the show, I even reminded him of the 16yr from Florida you pulled from the pit. I use to watch Oprah once in a while, but now I watch your program everyday......Love you Ellen, saw you again on "Women of the Night"! Keep making us laugh and thank you for all that you do for different communities and organizations!

HEEEEEY ELLEN

Well it's late and I just wanted to give you a quick shout out. I love your show. I have to DVR it because I work 6 days a week. I'm a single mom of a beautiful 12yr old....soon to be 13.....she loves your show and thinks you are as funny as I do.....I mean you rank up there with Sponge Bob and "The Fresh Prince of Belair" with her. I mean besides of course Chris Brown....next in line would be tying for 2nd place in her eyes are you and Will Smith. Well I never miss your show thanks to the DVR and sometimes depending on how busy my week is I may have to wait til Sunday and have an Ellen marathon. You have me laughing all of the time....love the expressions especially when your talking to the kids. Maybe I'll get lucky and eventually get tickets to your show....of course I'm in Mass...no where near your studio.....well that will be the vacation my daughter and I will take.....it's just as good as swimming with the dolphins of which I'm trying to save money to do before she's too old to appreciate a vacation with Me .....I've done neither(dophins or your show) but they both seem like a lot of fun. Well keep the laughter coming and don't let anything happen to those wings because you're one of the best Angels that God has graced us with.

Thanks for the laughter and the tears
Jessy

PS...Happy Belated Birthday...you got me by 2yrs and 365 days....1/25/61
