This Day In Ellen History

On this day in 1958, at 1:38 PM, at the Ochsner Hospital in Metairie Louisiana, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born. The clouds parted, birds could be heard singing and a rainbow was seen for miles.

On this day in 1967, Ellen got a bicycle for her birthday. She wanted a pony. Ellen ended up naming her bicycle Mr. Ed and could be seen pretending to feed it carrots in it's stall in the garage.

On this day in 2006, President William Jefferson Clinton made a surprise video appearance on Ellen's show and wished her a sincere happy birthday.

On this day in 2008, Ellen is celebrating a very happy 50th birthday. She was very touched and was seen yesterday thanking everyone for making it so special.

hello Ellen,im writting all the way fron Nigeria and its so sad we are one year behind in your tv show though i still enjoy every second of it especially your lovely dance steps.
i enjoy watching your show because it makes me laugh a lot and you never know whats next.
its very amazing when i see or hear people talk about you in a very endearing way and they dont even bother about your sexual preference even when they are strongly against it, this tells how much people love the laughter and happiness which you help them find.
i will be in the US in March and will be very gratefull if i can have the rare opportunity of meweting you.
i look forward to hear from you.
thanks.

Gloria.

Ellen I have to thank you so much for your show. I think it is the only time I laugh alll day. I recently (April 13th) lost my husband to renal cell cancer and it's been a tough road for me after 32yrs of being with him. My kids don't understand why I'm still in bad shape since it will be 10months since he passed. I don't know what to do with my life anymore without him/ Probably will have to sell my home because I am disabled and cannot keep up with the wear and tear and making the gardens like my husband did. Had to give away my black lab puppy which was the last gift my husband gave me cause he grew too big for me to handle but I still have a 9yrold german shep. Trying to find a new apt that accepts pets but its hard. Sorry for the pitiful letter but I needed someone. Feel I have no-one left. But your show makes my day.
thank you so much.

Watched your show today during which you shared with us your 50th birthday activities! You have great friends who planned such a great weekend for you!
Just wanted to share with you my great 70th birthday this past weekend also, (Jan. 27) planned by my fantastic daughter who does everything above and beyond. (She planned and carried out along with her 2 sibilings a wonderful surprise 65th for me but this one topped that one.)
I flew from my home in Florida on Friday to meet her in Denver where all the activities took place. The evening of my arrival she had a vase of beautiful fresh flowers and a "bucket full of surprises". Among several items in the bucket were two small bags of letters that spelled out the activity for the following day. The first day was "s-k-y-d-i-v-i-n-g"!!!! This activity was to occur after we went to the movie "The Bucket List"! (Fantastic movie!) Thank heaven, the skydiving was one of the indoor skydiving places but what a wonderful time we had.
The 2nd-day word puzzle spelled out "s-n-o-w-m-o-b-i-l-i-n-g"! Yes, we went up into the Rockies for 2 hours of snowmobiling - going from 9000 ft. to 12000 ft. What a beautiful day for such beautiful scenery!
In between these activities we enjoyed some fantastic food in the area.
Now this weekend was somewhat of a challenge for me since I was going from 0 ft. sea level to 12000 ft. and I have had both knees replaced since 2003. It was just by coincidence that at least one of those activities was on my "bucket list".
This was a weekend that I will never forget and am so grateful for April's (daughter) creativity
and her thoughtfulness.
Thanks for opportunity to share this with you.

Dear Ellen !
Happy Belated Birthday. I didn't forget it, i was too bussy preparing my father for his trip back Europe, so I wasn't able to see the show. No TiVo to tape it :). That night I had a dream, I was at your birthday party. You've got tons of amazing gifts ( which I'm sure You did) , and than there was this beautiful box of chocolates from the QUEEN OF FRANCE ?!?!?!?! I didn't know there is one, but she is sure a BIG fan of Yours, and why wouldn't she be?
Anyways HAppy birthday from me & my sons ( Bence & Attila) who are dance-fan of Yours, and from Queen of France :)

Dear Ellen,

I love your show and also, love you very much. You make me laugh. I understand that you don't have time to read and reply to all your Emails but, if possible please send me your address with your favourite color, so i can knit you a Scarf. You knit lots of hearts with lots of laughter everyday. My small introduction- My name is Laika Makkar, i have been in united states for about 4 and half years. I had a very rough childhood and i was brought here in united states for another hidden reason by my own mother. I stood up and stayed strong, she left me here alone. Slowly and gradually things have gotten better and im very grateful to god and his angels in this living world. We all have problems in life and they do make us strong and give us understanding of life. I sure have learnt alot at this age and am very grateful. I feel rich inside myself even when i dont very much money. But, i have dreams and desires and soon, they will take shape if i choose to stand by them persistently. I wish i can inspire people like you do. I RESPECT YOU VERY MUCH AND PRAY TO GOD FOR YOUR WELL-BEING. It will be my pleasure to meet you someday. Until then, stay the same cherful Ellen- Just as you are. Your Friend in spirit- Laika

Hi Ellen.. who thought I would actually sit here and send you a message. I actually met you once, in New York. Yes, I was there on a short vacation and walked to Rockerfeller Center and watched the Today Show and there you were! It was so exciting and I was able to shake hands with you! I will always remember that. I love my DVR, as now I can just watch your show on my own time. When I come home from work and once I am done with the cleaning, dinner, etc., I am ready to watch my two favortie shows "All My Children and The Ellen Show". I know I will always laugh and this just kind of erases all the tension I had for the day and just lets me forget all the bad things, even if for a while. I think it is just great, the kind things that you do for people. Sometimes, it only takes one person to let them show their stuff and wham! I hope you continue to keep your shows going for a very long time and I hope to be able to see an actual live show someday (but I want to go when you give away some great stuff, ha ha)!
Wishing you a wonderful Belated Birthday!

Keep on dancin...............
