hi Ellen! My name is Lacey Calvert and I am a student at California State University here in Chico, CA. I am writing to you because I have heard your birthday is coming up :) 50 is a great age and you have so much to look forward. This year, my mother (who also is my best friend!) is turning 50 as well. Unfortunately, her birthday lands on the same weekend as my college graduation. Since she is such a compassionate and wonderful mother who will do anything for her children, she has planned to put her birthday on the back burner and made sure the weekend's attention and planning went towards my college graduation. She has been looking forward for this birthday for many years, as this is the year I turned 21, she turns 50 and my grandmother turns 80. She has overcame many hospital scares with me AND my twin brother and battled Hepatitis with my father. Shes is an amazing woman and I feel as though she needs a weekend to celebrate her 50th birthday as well.
So my suggestion and question is to see if you can help me give her the 50th birthday that she deserves. She is DYING to go to your show one day but since I am a starving college student, I cant afford to get her to LA with hotel prices so high. If you have any idea on how to celebrate you and my mother's 50th birthday, please let me know. She is someone who would love to share a birthday with you and someone I would love to do something for as she has done so much for me.

Hi Ellen. I am 53 now, but my right hip is only 2 years old, and my left ankle is about 7 years old. Then there are all those recently crowned teeth. I figure it this way.....when you mathematically average in all the younger ages of your various replacement body parts to your age, it turns out that you get younger! For example, with my replacement parts factored in times the weighted scaled value of my ankle, hip and teeth relative to my total body mass, it turns out I'm only 41...oops, which brings me right back through menopause....so scratch that idea! I don't know if you have any replacement parts yet or not, and it's just none of my business if you do, but if you do, don't forget to factor those in....unless doing so takes you back through menopause or puberty or teething or something--and who wants to go there again--certainly not me! I'll take fifty-three!!!

"50" is a good number in your life. I turned 50 in June and my husband gave me a very special birthday. We went swimming with the dolphins in Florida. We had a blast. Due to a health problem that I still have, I was not supposed to even reach my 16th birthday. So coming this far to have the opportunity to be 50 years old is a great feeling and even if you are healthy you should cherish every year that is given to you. Ellen you make my day and I love you very much as you fill my day with laughter with every show that I watch of yours. Your are beautiful inside and out and the only advice that I can give you is to don't change who you are. Your perfect!!! I love you Ellen. I wish I could be there to celebrate your birthday with you and meet you.

We met in Burlington Vermont in perhaps 2001, National Coming out week, I handed you a painted flower pot a friend of mine painted for you, anyway a long time ago.. I just want to tell you that I love your show and have watched all I could get my habds on, I live in the woods in VT and do not get cable, but sometimes I get them netflix or friends tape for me... Happy 50th B Day Ellen! I turned 50 on 9/4/07. I had a hawaiian party on 9/8/07. I celebrated with 250 friends and family. How lucky am I to be able to bring in the next half of my life with most everyone I love. I invited you to the party but I guess you and Porche were busy. It was your kind of party, lots of food, dancing, singing and most important, lots of vodka and rum. So far my 50th year has been GREAT. I was lucky enough to sit in your audiance on 9/18/07. I brought you some presents from my party. That was the most fun I think I have ever had. Since I turned 50 I have been blessed with a lots of fun, laughter and good health. I hope your birthday month will be as good as mine if not better. You work hard and do great things for people. You always say how lucky you are but I think it's good karma coming back to you. You're lookin pretty darn good so don't you worry... oh... and when and if you see the excess baggage around your waist and butt... just look the other way.. too much work to get it off!!!

The top 10 things to expect now that you are turning 50...
10. You're only 5 years away from getting a senior citizens discount....
9. You don't get asked if "that girl you're with" is your sister anymore...they ask if that's your daughter....(My wife is 35, I am 54.)
8. You have more paper recycling because AARP sends invites in the mail at least 3 times per week.
7. You start thinking about joining AARP.
6. That "platinum hair color" you pay top dollar for, well...you'll be able to find a new use for that money soon.
5. Alarm clocks will soon become an unneccessary item on your nightstand as you will begin to wake up on your own now because of the new need to visit the powder room more often.
4. Metamucil becomes a household word...and a grocery list staple.
3. When people say "forget it" flipidly...now it takes on a whole new meaning.
