congratulations to the "meanest mom in the world", more parents need to be like her. my son calls me the "frickin FBI mom" as well as thinking i'm mean. go to myspace.com/mommascat to the photo of my son's license tag, "83 AND UP", which indicates his required school grades to drive. he was so happy when he talked me down from 85, he bought a vanity plate, now a constant reminder of his required grades! happy birthday ellen! i love your show, keep dancin'! another mean mom, carol

i think what he was doing was right. he was driving friends around. he seems very into keeping his friends safe no matter what. now, while i disagree with the anonymous person, rules are made to be broken, hence the reason why teenagers seem to have more fun at their age then other ages. but no matter what, rules will be broken. the car ad was hilarious, but his mom did do right. he did forget to lock the doors, and that was a rule that she made, that was to keep it locked. as for the alcohol, she had no way of knowing if it was his or not, and another rule, so she had every right to take the car. now, what i said may have been confusing, but you all should look back and think, you must have broken at least one rule in your life. so as i said, rules are made to be broken, but for the parents out there reading this, you make rules, and you expect your kids to listen to them, and most of the time, they will listen. just give it some thought, and maybe you will understand what i am trying to say.

My family wants to know why you would reward the kid that lost his car for breaking the rules? The Meaner mom from N.D. (I would have never allowed them the games you gave him, so they say). Kids now days walk all over the parents! WE NEED TO STAND STRONG AND EVERY PARENT NEEDS THE BUMPER STICKERS LIKE YOU GAVE THEM. PARENTS RULE!!!!!!!!!

He deserves getting his car taken away.Rules are rules once they are made they should not be broken.Thats why there is rules. He learns from them now he will have a better life. Cuz there is rules for everyone, everything and every place you go or do. POINT IS--ITS a BIG part of your LIFE.Great going Mom.You are not the only one that calls yourseif that.I do to and so doesn't my friends,my daughters, and their friends. But the greatest thing about all of it is I KNOW it.But they are safe.

to me it would depend if HE bought the car himself. If he did, no, you should have no right to sell something that HE save for and HE bought. If the parent bought the car for him than yes, way to go.

YEAH!! for this AWESOME MOM!! I LOVE HER STYLE!!
I agree it doesn't matter if he knew there was alcohol or not it is his responsibility!! And it's better he learn that now from his mother than the hard way and find himself in jail!!!!!

YEAH!!!

This is a very diffilcult subject for my girlfriend and me,alcohol and car driving
25years ago our 5year young son die 16.00 in the afternoon a woman from a year of 40 drive in a car with a lot of alcohol in her body and toke[drive] our son away
the are things the happend in someones lifes and childeren are childeren the try things out and don,t say not my kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we know with Steve everything comes alright he is a good boy and the mother is a GREAT woman who want the best for her childeren
we think she is a example for a lot of parents
HEE ELLEN HAPPY BIRTHDAY 10days and you are 50year young Lady
BIG,BIG HAPPINING

It's always so nice to hear from other MOM(mean old moms). We have 4 girls and only a 5 year span between the oldest & youngest, so we've been mean alot. I was advised to make the punishment fit the crime, and try to keep a sense of humor, which worked for us. All 4 girls were in college last year, and becuase we made honor roll and community service mandatory, or no extra activities, they were all offered decent packages from the different colleges. It's not always easy, but the end result is so worth it.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only "Mean Mom" on this planet! Just heard about this mother for selling her son's car after he broked the rules. I myself last summer of 07 had reprosessed my son's car when he was not making payments (which the car is under my name) and did it on a Sunday morning with my husband. That same week I got inside and outside car detailed and put the ad in the paper saying my son has not make any payments and must sell the car. It was a great 1999 Honda Civic but I stuck what I meant and I did it! So I sold the car within a week to a very nice college kid. It's very hard to do but children need to learn the hard way only because we love them. I'm not perfect, because I still sometimes struggle on some things. The funny thing is that my son didn't think I was serious. Well, hopefully that's a learning experience for him.

I want to congratulate this "Meanest Mom." I am the mother of two young children and wish that more parents would take the responsibilty in reaising their children. If more parents were like her there would be a lot less drinking related accidents in minors. There might just be less accidents as adults. She is a great insperation to me. I will always be involved with my kids, just like my mom was. I wish that more people would show their love to their children in this way instead of trying to be their best friends. Children have plenty of friends and not enough parenting.
Happy Birthday Ellen.

I go to school with this kid! He is a good guy.

I just wanted to wish Ellen a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!I sure hope that it is a great one because if anyone in the world deserves to be happy it is YOU ELLEN! I am saying this Ellen because about eight years ago I almost died due to post pardom cadiomyopothy and I have been on disability ever since then. Well Social Security has since then decided that even though I have a mulitutde of other health issues I am capable of returning to work, that's easier said than done since noone wants to hire me even though I have alot of experience- it has ust been a while since I've worked. But what I am trying to say is that I have been depressed but each morning after getting devotion done Ellen chers me up THANK YOU! HAPPY FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY YOU ARE THE GREATEST! YOU MAKE ME SMILE WHEN NOONE ELSE CAN!

Way to go!!! We all hope that this never happens to us as we like to think our children are perfect. However, should such an event happen, the Meanest Mom has raised the bar on brillant parenting tactics!!! An excellent example of tough love by a loving parent!!!

I think she is the best. I wish I had done the same thing with my youngest boy, who now at the age of 28 has kept his license for the last 4 years. All of us Moms should take a lesson from her. There is no way Jane is a mean Mom and your son Steve looks and acts like one great guy (thanks to Mom)

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

That's great! The mother can be ruthlessly degraded for her snooping of her college son by some. As a parent, I can SO understand where she is coming from. I give her credit for believing her son. I don't know how I would've reacted. That excuse (tho valid I'm sure) is one of the oldest in the books. I am glad to have another Meanest Mom in the World chum to join me!
