I love the meanest mom. Congrats to you, Ellen, for supporting her and giving her positive recognition.
After seeing the story in my local paper I had to watch the clip. WAY TO GO!
Here is my latest story for Meanest Mom CLub: My 17 year old son and his friends want to have a co-ed sleep over after the Jr. Prom. I said no, as I have continued to say each week when he asks, using a slightly different senerio. Now the other parents want to speak to me about this and try to change my mind. Why do they care so much? why can't they just let me make up my own mind for what I do with my family?

He is definitely lying. That booze was totally his. Good story though.

CONGRADES to mom,I think she probly has an A okay son,But a lesson was learned and all parents and ther kids can learn from this. Maybe this could be a new law for the books, We could save a few young lives. I know I would of probley have lost a few cars when I was that age.

way to go Jane. I have known Jane for a great many of years( before Steven) She is actually a very kind loving mom and a great mom to Steven and his sister

Oh Ellen I feel so bad. I am reading through your comments and all I see are people asking you for things. I feel bad because a few weeks before you had your Twelve Days of Givaways I wrote to you to beg for tickets (which I didnt get) because I wanted some prizes. And now I come back to write a birthday comment and read all of these other very needie comments. Your an Angel sent from heaven Ellen and we all love you and respect you very much. Happy Happy Birthday for the Flores Family.

RIGHT TO THE POINT OUR CHURCH HAS A MENS HOME AND THEY NEED A VAN AND INSURANCE.THEY DONT HAVE TO HAVE A NEW ONE AN OLD ONE WOULD BE GREAT..I SAW THE TOP 20 RICHEST PEOPLE ON TV AND YOU ARE ONE..I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE ASK YOU FOR THINGS.WELL LET ME TELL YOU THIS MENS HOME IS HELPING MEN CHANGE THEIR LIVES.TO GET OFF THE STREETS AND TO CHANGE THEIR LIVES.SOME ARE NOW OFF DRUGS,ALCOHOL.SOME HAVE EVEN BECAME PASTORS..WE NEED A LARGE VAN.WELL JUST THOUGHT I COULD ASK AND ALL YOU CAN SAY IS NO,THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

Just imagine what that Mother would do if she caught her son actually drinking and driving. The Mother's reactions may have seemed a little over dramatic, but i quarantee that her son will never drink and drive. That's the real message.

P.S. Your Awesome Ellen!!!!!!!!

~ Chad Knuckle, Age 20.

I think that this mother deserves a reward, more parents should have the same caring response. I would like her to know that she is not the only mean mom out there, my children consider me the meanest mom also. Maybe we should start the mean mom club, also know as we love our childrens club. it takes more love to say no then yes. maybe if more mothers reacted this way we would not have lost that family in OHio after xmas, which happened to be friends of my 1o year old. hang in there and keep doing the right thing

Wow, what a lot of comments-- way to go Ellen! Anyhoo (is that trademarked by Ellen?) the meanest mom should have received a prize --a trip to the spa, a vacation... the son was rewarded and that was nice of you, but the mom truly deserved to be rewarded for following the parents #1 rule, keep your consequences and follow through....what's up Ellen? Why are mothers never rewarded for their good deeds?
By the way, why are you not rewarded for all the good you do Ellen? I should praise before I criticize. You make my day and always give me an hour of my quest to be more childlike and spend more time laughing!
~from another mean mother to be
my kids are too little to tell me I am mean yet

I really think you should start a club on your show for the Meanest Moms. According to my daughter, I'm the Meanest Mom just because I won't let her go to the Mall by herself. I told her she's only 11 and it ain't going to happen. So I guess I would qualify for the club.

Haha, Steven!
It's funny to see a schoolmate/co-worker on here.

Ellen-

I loved the meanest mother in the world. I have so much respect for her. She gave those rules and stuck to them. It's hard to be a mom these days.

Ellen,

I think it was good to have the Meanest Mom on with her son. Two things, I would have asked; who bought the car and who is paying for his education. And told the age of the young man, at some point you have to let go and let kids try their wings. However, if mom bought the car, the rules are the rules!!!

Why was the alcohol under the DRIVERS seat??????

I feel the mom should have been rewarded with gifts rather that the young man!

thanks, BJ Cardenas

I watched your show today on the meanest Mom. I believe she is in for some tough competiotion. My son too will be a designated driver. I truly understand his reasoning for trying to keep "his friends safe" however, just like the meanest mom found alcohol in her sons car, so did the cops in my son. This in California is illegal and will forever be on my sons record as possession. His friends all got let off the hook, because afterall, his car is considered his possession. Well, he got pulled over for not coming to a complete stop, and the officer made him do a breathalizer test, which he passed, then he had him walk the line, still he passed, he made my son do a breathalizer again and my son gagged and started to vomit, the officer halled him into jail, did a blood test which came back negative. seriously, I thought maybe he would have drank and would give in to the peer pressure. But he didn't... as it turns out....I then sold his car to pay for his attorney.... His step mom screamed at me in which I hung up the phone- How dare she..... I gave him life and no one loves a kid like a mom..... "this is gonna hurt me more than you..." Its a tough world out there and it is our responsibility to teach our kids. My one fault- well many, but one is I taught my kids to see the good in people and unfortunately, it isn't in everyone.... Sad to say......
Happy Birthday Ellen!!!

Back in 1979 my mother, brother and I were coming home late from bingo at 130 am in Iowa and all three of us seen a ufo. We never told anyone. It was also a very colorful but round fast object. It was there one minute and then gone.

That sounds like something my mother-in-law would do. In fact, when my husband was 15, she caught him skipping school, so she brought him to the local police station and introduced him to every cop there! She told them if they caught him playing truant to arrest him on the spot! Well, he didn't do it again...

SORRY ELLEN BUT CAN YOU MOVE THIS CLIP WE THINK EVERYBODY HAVE DRINKING TO MUCH ALCOHOL THE AL SEE UFO,S???????????????????????????????????

Iam from northern Ontario, Canada and I don't watch ELLEN until 5pm, in fact it is the first show I watch each day. I have had soooo many calls today from my friends, you see they all watch your show earlie in the day. They all have told me that you had the meaniest mom on your show and they all said that as mean as that was selling his car she couldn't hold a candle to me. When my son Ryan was 14 he came home from being at a friend's house (so I thought) at about 3pm, stated he had a headache and was going to lay down and to wake him for supper. So I said okay but when I went down to wake him, I couldn't get close to him for the smell of booze on him. So I went back upstairs fuming mad because I have always told my boys that every action has a re-action and they must be responsible for their actions. Their father is a Police Officer and I myself use to work for Metro Toronto Police. Sooo I got on the phone and called the OPP (Ont. Provencial Police) and requested that he be arrested for drinking underage. So they sent an officer and he thought I wanted just to scare him not to do it again. But I firmly stated I wanted him cuffed, put in the back of the car and taken to the station and processed. So Officer Dixon took him outside in cuffs and placed him in the car and they sat for quite awhile. About 30 mins later he returned with Ryan out of cuffs and said that he had a good talk with Ryan and he thought he learnt his lesson. Nope I wanted him to go thru the system so that he knew what it was like and that it wouldn't happen again. It took the officer and my son 90 mins. to convince me that he had learned and would not do it again. He was true to his word and my other son never gave me any trouble either. Now don't get me wrong I am not naive to think they didn't drink, or get drunk again they both knew though that I did not hand out empty threats and that laws are there to protect us not to harm us. Ryan is now a stand up comedian in Toronto and has used this story many times in is routine, it gets stretched a little but the lesson is always there.

Hey Ellen , I saw your show today {and I enjoy your show,s} about the people in Texas who saw the Ufo and I just wanted to let you know that in Prinse Ewdard Island,Canada there was a siting during the holidays. There were pictures taken which were sent away and it was found that they were not tammpered with but the offical response was something dropped from a russian space ship.{go figure} All this is reported in our local paper the "JournalPioneer"Dec.2007,.Please check this out !!!! Love your Kim,P.E.I.

Kudos to the meanest Mom!!!!! I think she had a right to sell the car. Her son agrees that both rules were broken. I can see trying to negotiate if only one was broken, but this just shows you that as a parent you have to stick to your guns. I feel she was right to believe in her son but she had to follow up with consequences. Too many parents don't do this or they listen to the excuses and let it slide. I let my kids know that I handed over my title of the meanest mom in the world to another. I think her son also should be given credit to not letting his friends drive home by giving them a ride. Next time I think he will at least look at the whole picture before agreeing to such a broad spectrum on the rules and have them be a little more specific.
