Dear Ellen,

I DVR your show every day. I have to watch it in the evenings, or after the children and their needs have been met. You might say that it is my little time of laughter and entertainment that isn't political or manipulative or anything that I have to think about, other than to sit back and enjoy, and decide what I will have to drink (no not booze - coffee or hot cocoa!).

You are the true delight of my day and I have always been a huge fan (can you remember the four female comedy show hosted by Martin Short - loved your conversation with God), but never more so than the generosity that you show over and over again that humbles me.

When you called the woman with the three autistic children I sobbed so hard you would have thought it was my own family.

We have three adopted children, all siblings, one who is severely mentally and emotionally impaired. So we know how meaningful through all the years of pain and heartache we have gone through as a family what a break can mean. A break for fun for us as a family, or for my husband and me as a couple. We are blessed that we have my father and his lady friend, and a dear set of friends we call our "chosen" family that have let us take a break now and again. Many do not have even that aspect.

When you called that woman and had her family member on the line the chills and goosebumps on my skin felt sky high. I watched your face, the faces of the audience, and felt the genuine affection as if a prayer had been answered in the woman's voice.

You make my day Ellen. Your generosity and care for others is heartwhelming (I made up my own word for you - you are heartwhelming!). Can you only imagine the very magic that you brought to their lives, if only for a week? How wonderful they must feel, like hitting the lottery, to plan, to think, to dream. It IS magic, and it IS because of you.

I hope you have a WONDERFUL birthday Ellen, and 50 more, because the world needs people like you. No agenda, just heartwhelming!
