What's For Lunch?

Today I will be lunching on a fried tilapia. I'm not quite sure what a tilapia is, but everybody's eating them. I think it's either a fish or a vegetable from Brazil. The tilapia is covered with a burnt butter basil pesto sauce with capers and tomatoes. I don't know why the butter is burnt. I'm sure that my chef, Sean, burned it on purpose and that in the all the trendy eateries, everybody is enjoying the burnt butter. ...unless he's mad at me.

Sean, if your mad, please tell me why and we can get this whole misunderstanding figured out. There are also some lovely sautéed green and yellow beans and some mixed vegetable quinoa which, according to Sean, is an ancient grain that contains all eight amino acids, making it a complete protein. Once again, I don't know why Sean is serving me ancient grains when he can easily get fresh, new, ones at any supermarket, but I am sure that he knows what he's doing. Maybe it's like cheese or wine. Maybe the grain gets better with age. ...unless Sean's serving me ancient food to get back at me for something.

Thought this would help. A tilapia is fresh water fish and the name Tilapia is the common name for nearly a hundred species of cichlid fishes from the tilapiine cichlid tribe.
Where I come from its a fish eaten on a regular basis but after watching Mike Rowe's dirty jobs.. The tilapia is beginning to lose its appeal.. Watch it and you'd understand.

Ellen-I love burnt butter on my popcorn!

tilapia is a fish served pretty often where i live. we serve it with the skin on, though, and with this thing called chai poh which is very fragrant and gives a lovely flavour. i think it's made out of vegetables but i'm not very sure.. it's an asian style of cooking though.

Sorry I meant to write West coast

Hi Ellen, I love the Tilapia myself, But I hven't eaten in a while, I haven't eaten since I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe showed how they clean dirty water, and At some point it involves fish eating the dirty stuff out of the water, and one of the fish species used was Tilapia, then Mike mentioned that the fish after a certain size were sold for Human consumption.
Kind of grossed me out and I have taken to politely turning the page when I see it offered at restuarants now.
I figured I'd share the info, by the way the place Mike was at was somewhere in the east coast

hey ellen! tilapia is a fish. it's typically grown in Asian countries, particularly the Philippines, by which you can easily buy them everywhere. 3 mid-sizes tilapia would normally cost $1.85 or 80 pesos. It is usually cultivated in a pond using fresh water fish but there are some which grows them in salt water. It's very delicious! Try it steaming it with coconut milk, ginger and bell pepper. YUM-O!

Is that food?

Hi Ms. Ellen, nice lunch! Tilapia is a fish. One of its common name is "St. Peter's fish" because some believed that the Tilapia was the fish that Jesus used to feed the five-thousand on the Sea of Galilee. It also referred to as "the wonder fish." They are omnivore, they eat organic material, not other fish.

'Love your show!

I think the lunch looks great! I'd love to cook you lunch! Sesame seed encrusted tuna with a wasabi sauce (no I'd not make it spicy). Or a Vietnamese steak salad with Noc Mam Dressing, light on calories but so good and you get all the good calories with great taste. Oh and you'd have a ball trying to cook it with me :=).

Love the show and the lunches.

Hugs,
Sticks
