NAMING NAMES
Let’s talk about names. My name is Ellen. My show has a name, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show. We tested other names like, “It’s Ellen, DANG!” (Too “street” for middle America.) We almost went with “Ellen’s Laughtacular Express” but it sounded too much like a roller coaster. I liked “Ellen’s Tickle Chatter” but Merv Griffin already owned that one. You can trademark a name. Then you’re the only person who owns that name like Trump or Starbucks. Anyone who uses that name has to pay you money. Everyone knows that I made a personal fortune when I trademarked the name “Vodka.”
It’s fun naming things. Some people like giving animals people names like Sally or Ted. “Hey, what’s your dog’s name?” “His name is Steve.” “How clever. Do you think you could get Steve off my leg?” The latest trend is to give your kids an offbeat name like Autumn, Willow or Snowball. The only time an offbeat name comes in handy is when you get pulled over and a policeman tries to intimidate you. “Do you know why I pulled you over …Buttercup?”

Hi Ellen,
I am so glad that you love pitbulls also. I have two granddogs that are pitbulls and they are so loving and wonderful. My oldest son lost Roxie, his first pitbull to cancer on August 7, 2007, and it was the hardest thing watching her go through. My son had such a hard time saying goodbye to her that we kept her for two weeks longer than we should have. They loved to go to the river and four wheel and just overall loved to be together all of the time. When I hear these horrid stories of dog fighting whether on the news or from the ASPCA, it just makes me sick!! All these states also that want to ban this breed of dog is so wrong, they only hear the bad things and not the good. The other pitbull is named Mojo and he is approximately 11 years old. My 6 year old grandson says that Mojo is his brother, this is how close they are.(He is a red nose pitbull)I have the cutest picture of the two of them with their heads together if you ever care to see it. I would have to mail pictures as I don't have much access to a computer. This dog belongs to my 28 year old son who is such an advocate of these dogs also. I know that I am probably sharing more than you care to hear, but I love your show and love you for your caring of this beautiful breed of a dog. The local newspaper was going to run a section on whether or not to ban this breed and of course it was the day that I had taken Roxie to be put to sleep. I came back to my sons house and wrote a story to the paper on my feelings and they actually printed it. I felt that this was in honor of Roxie, and even though I was and am still so sad it made me feel like I made a tiny bit of a difference for pit bulls just because I voiced my opinion. I would love to hear back from you if you ever get a chance. Thank you for listening to my story.
