Ellen just taped her first ever variety show for TBS, and it is really big. Click here for a sneak peek.
Only thing that bothers me about not being able to view this show, is missing the African Children's Choir.
The rest of the show, really who cares?
I remain disappointed they (The African Children's Choir) would agree to perform on a show that shuns Canada - a country that outdoes most other countries in the amount of donations given to the childrens cause.
Shame,shame!
steve take a flying leap! in my book, ELLENs' smiling face and gentle ways are every penny that was spent just to see her in person.
I was at the taping of Ellen's Really Big Show in Vegas and although I was disappointed I still appreciate her efforts. My disappointment was my own fault. I didnt quite undertsnd the concept of what a "variety show" was so I had a totally different idea in my head as to what the show was all about. Knowing now what a variety show is, it was a great show, I just had hoped to see more of Ellen, whom I absolutely adore. I went there expecting more of a stand up comedy show but like I said, that was my own fault for being "out of the loop" on what a variety show really is.
With that said, I have no regrets spending $180 on tickets. Our seats were great and although my girlfriend doesnt belive me, I SWEAR Ellen made eye contact with me!! That made it all worth while...=o)
We look forward to watching the show on TBS tonight....
TBS what?
Can't seem to find it anywhere here in Canada eh!
My husband even tried to find it......that's commitment. Sorry we'll miss it.

Hello Ellen
I just had a baby and in Canada we get a full year off work for that and this has giving me finaly the chance to watch your show!! It's on to early when I am at work and by the time I get home, it's over. I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU. My husband gets back home from work, and most of the time, even before I mention anything about the baby, I'm like "oh my god!? you don't know what Ellen did today!?!" anyway...
I wanted to write to let you know that in Canada, since only a short while, TBS has been changed for Peachtree. It's like the canadien version of TBS. I have been looking forward to watch the Ellen's really BIG show that's on tonight on TBS...only to realise that in Canada, on Peachtree it's not this show that will be on, but the movie Drumline!! AAAARRRRGGGGG I'm so mad!! Hopefully it will be on another channel sometime soon?? if not, will there be a DVD??? if not, could you send me a copy of the show??
loooooooooove

Hello Ellen,
I just moved to Canada from NYC in August to be with the one who stole my heart online back in March. Quite different here indeed but, I am at my best I can say, since I am far away from the hustle and bustle of the MTA and other crowded places there. I am able to sit down in my home and start writing my book like I always wanted to do. I will be getting married sometime next year for the first time, and just turned 50 in October. Also became a first time grandma too only 2 weeks after my arrival here. Can't wait to go back to see her now. Well, wanted to wish you a happy 50th and the best always. I watch your show everyday since you been on TV back in the days. Love ya much and wish you the best always.
Louie
PS: Can you say hi to everyone for me in NYC? LOL
Like Steve, I was also in the audience for the taping of Ellen's Really Big Show. And I'd like to add a few comments on Steve's remarks:
Yes, tickets ranged from $50-80 and the show sold out. However, there was also free admission available for people wanting to be "seat fillers". 200+ people were admitted at No Charge, but we had to be willig to move to a vacant seat at any point so that shots of the crowd showed a full audience. I was fortunate - got a good seat and stayed there all night. However, my two friends got moved around a bit. I can understand why Steve would not have wanted to go this route (I didn't even know about it until we showed up to buy tickets), but it made the "gamble" a lot less painful.
The guy who worked the crowd during the breaks - I had never been to a show taping, so I just assumed this is what they did. Personally, I would have preferred for Lyle Lovett to play more during the breaks as he was a large part of the reason I was there. But again, can't complain about a free show.
I thought the talent was just about on par for what a typicial Ed Sullivan show would have been. The exception was the Barry Mailow segment which was taped and pretty cheesy. Ellen herself was funny and maintains that "genuine" feel, even during the breaks. Aside from Ellen, Sheryl Crow was the only real "name" on this bill. And while she was very good, she only did one song (twice, because she didn't like her first performance and asked to do it again). The "variety act" portions were very good for what they were, but I wish they'd have been balanced out with some more big names.
On my way home Sunday, there was a radio show on the local NPR affiliate that talked a bit about the Vegas Strip. Two of the comments made during the program were (paraphrased) "Vegas is designed to seem like there are no rules in a tightly controlled environment", and "Everything in Vegas is desgined to encourage visitors to part with their money". I would say that this show was typical of those two statements, at least for Steve.
I've been to a few Vegas shows over the years. Ellen's show really didn't stack up to some, and was better than others I've seen...which is the same thing I'd say about shows I've seen in other parts of the county. I'll still watch it tonight, why not? We haven't had a variety show like this on the air in many years. I applaud Ellen for at least making the effort.
WHUUUT? Ellen's moving? But why? When? Why was I not notified? Don't they know I'm Ellen's biggest fan?
Dear Ellen,
I was not really interested to watch your show which comes in daily into our TV programme every morning. But one day I heard my wife, Kamaliah laughing througout from inside her room and was w0ndering why. I looked inside and she was glued to the tv watching your show and she had never laughed like that throughout. By the way, my wife suffered a stroke and she's wheelchair bound and bed-ridden.
Keep up with your show, Ellen, it really made my wife so happy and she's for ever waiting for your next show, She sends you her regards and all her love, bye (and from me as I am hooked too) Love always from SINGAPORE
No disrespect Steve,
but in my opinion, it is always upon your discretion to watch a show that you "might" have
thought to be nice or extravagant - like watching a movie - sometimes the trailers are nice but fail to deliver...
you also forgot to consider that what may seem aweful to you maybe nice to others - so, what I'm trying to say is, blabbering about "how bad the show" is doesn't really help us people who haven't seen it but it only makes you look like a big cry baby...
Ellen was hired to be the host, I don't think she is responsible for the $180.00 you paid to see it, You gambled, unfortunately you lose.
Also what may be junk to you, is probably gems to others.
Thanks.
does anyone know if I can see this show in canada? Bell expressvu tells me that 294peachtree tv is tbs, but it's not even scheduled? HOW CAN I WATCH THIS IN CANADA?......ARGH.....I GOT THAT CHANNEL AND PAID 19.95 FOR NOTHING..............I HATE EXPRESSVU.
Yup,
That's my only regret for having been critical here. People reading this may be forced to tune in just to see if 'ole Steve was exaggerating! I do appreciate, however, this site's openness in posting all opinions, and I'll continue to watch Ellen occasionally, because I really think she's funny. However, she and her people owe me an apology for wasting my precious time and hard-earned money to watch something so bad.
Thanks, Jennifer. You won't believe how bad the "so-called" comedians are. And the time between commercials was extremely painful to sit through, with members of the audience, instead of Ellen, providing the "entertainment" during the long breaks. Also, the variety acts were just like stuff that plays every night across the street at Bally's in the "Jubilee" show. One more thing, Wayne Newton was as cheesy as anyone could possibly be, and the Barry Manilow segment on Caesars' roof wasn't even live, but taped earlier. He was performing his own show at the Hilton during Ellen's taping. I'm still so mad, I can hardly see straight.

Yeah sometimes the bigger the act the bigger the disappointment. I always thought Wayne Newton and Barry Manilow were cheesy. I was wondering if she was going to have them on the show.
Sometimes it works out though. I went and seen Tim McGraw and Faith Hill in Columbus and it was worth every penny I paid. I actually paid only 20 dollars more to see them and Taylor Swift perform for 4 hours than you did see that stuff. I was worried it was going to be a bust considering how big an act those 2 are together but it was worth the drive there and the money I spent that I really didn't HAVE. I would go see them again. Something like that variety show deal I wouldn't go see. It's not my type of thing. I would go see her do stand-up by herself though.
Some of those Vegas acts seem to flashy and showy for me. I'd skip on Celine Dion too. I don't know if she is still doing that or not but I wouldn't bother to see the show. To much of a production for me.
I will watch the show anyway. You know how it is, you know there's going to be a trainwreck but can't help looking.

I see where you are coming from there Steve. I watched the Bill Engvall one on TBS last night that they taped out in Las Vegas and didn't think but one guy was funny. I would've been mad if I had spent the money to go see the show.
I doubt that Ellen was aware of how much they charged for tickets. Most music artists aren't aware of it. They just show up and collect the money and move on to another city night after night. I doubt she had anything to do with the price of the tickets. The place where shows are held is the place that sets the price in most cases.
Now into the variety show thing, I think that was a bad idea even though I havent' seen it. It appears to be looking like a 3 ring circus of some sorts. Or as I called it in a e-mail about it " The Ellen thinks America has Talent show". Hopefully I'll have a better opinion after the show airs tomorrow night. I really don't like bashing people I try to give the benefit of the doubt. I just think she was trying to make an entertaining show. Whether it was a hit or miss I'll tell you after it airs tomorrow night.

Being a fan of Ellen for many years and watching and loving her talk show i am sad that the show she has been talking about "Ellen's Really Big Show" for some time now on her show is not airing here in Canada.
I noticed a few people have posted from Canada about this and i personally think something should be done about this. It is not fair to us and her many fans across Canada who love Ellen and support her. Being from Montreal i moved here from Toronto and her show is even aired on CityTV which is a Canadian channel.
I think she (or who is in charge or arragement) should have thought about this and airing the show on TBS before hand and thought about other Countries and/ or other channels. Perhaps even a Pay Per View.
I hope this show will be reaired again on another channel or perhaps even a DVD.
I am sure i'm not the only Canadian who was looking forward to seeing/ watching this show "Ellen's Really Big Show" and disapointed i can not just because i live in Canada.
Maybe i need to live in America.
PS.
I was also wondering why she never has and when she ever will have Brad Pitt on her show.
