My Halloween Lunch

Today my chef, Sean, has whipped up some faux cream (non dairy) of tomato soup. I don’t know where fake cream comes from. I don’t want to know. But I’d like to say something about lactose intolerance. Can’t we all get along? If we try to understand lactose, maybe one day we can tolerate each other and it will be a better world for all of us.

For the main course, I have some crab cakes and sprouts resting comfortably on a bed of baby lettuces with raspberries for garnish. By the way, you haven’t really slept until you’ve spent the night on a bed of baby lettuces. This is the perfect lunch for me to be light on my toes when I go trick or treating later.

Happy Halloween and have a good lunch,

Ellen

* Tell us your story
Dear Ellen:

I know you must get hundreds, no thousands, maybe millions of requests to be on your show. I would deffinitivelly, possitivelly want to be on your show.

My story: Grandmother 57 going on 58 (dec. 13th,) happily divorced twice, over 29 yrs ago, raised 2 special needs children on my own, and now raising my adopted grandaughter who is 7, and who has been my buddy for the last 7yrs, 8 months and 7 days, and I have never ever in my whole entire life gotten 1 vacation day. There has always been something more important than me, and at this age, I am one tired Gran-mama.!

Oh, if I could be on your show, I would be happy to "vacation" on this trip.
No, really it would be a pleasure and an honor to meet you, you are the funniest lady of commedy, I've always though about becoming a clown, but life just keeps passing me by and well, I doesn't look like is going to happen at all now. I enjoy your dances, I think that it is so kool, when you dance all the way to your seat, and then in the audience, I can only imagine what it would be like when the camaras are not rolling.

My beautiful grandbaby Savannah, is such and awesome child, no father, mother wants no part of her, I have to constantly tell her she is my gift from God, which she is, but I am disabled for the last 12 years, and cannot work at least physically, wish there was some type of work I could do from home to earn some money to give her the few things she wants, because she is a very understanding child.

She will be 8 on March 8th, and it would be a big surprise if we can go to one of your shows, specially your birthday, (she is big on birthdays) most of the time is just me and her, but we sing happy birthday, and eat cake and ice cream.

She saw a picture of me a few years back, on my birthday blowing 1 candle on a small cake, and she said oh mamy I don't ever want to see that happen again to you, we'll celebrate your birthday, I said no honey you are my present I don't need birthday, christmas, mothers or any other day presents I have you.

Well I guess this is enough, you might not even read this. but if you do thanks, keep on dancing and being funny!

The soup looks lovely, as a lactose-intolerant myself I would, in theory, love to understand lactose but to be honest the thought of consuming animal milk kind of grosses me out now. I mean seriously can it be normal to drink the fluids of a cow?

The halloween show looks cool, I can't wait till it airs here! Living in Scotland we are a wee bity behind you. Today you had the guy who jumps over cars on.

Didn't you say 100.00 for every time he used the word poop yesterday? Well, i don't have a hundred bucks but I just (I can't stop lauging)..........just had "poopie pants" (It hurts, my stomach, from lalughihg) .........ok on a serious note, if everyone sharede an experiece with "wether their own or sojeonw eles's, and we could someone make that into a donation type thing for breast cancer, (this comes closeto my heart by the way), we could have alot of laughs and raise money for us women that really need the research done asap.

I guess my little accident is a sign that I need to put my mom hat on and get some laundry, dishes, done, etc..... until showtime that is...

sorryellen ifthis is offensive, it wasjust toio funny notto share..

In nature, milk is for babies. Lactose comes from milk so as long as lactose knows it's place then we can all get along. Many adults are big babies though so perhaps they are able to drink milk. (

So....

Does your chef have a brother? I just had an argument with my husband, who works from a home office, about what exciting thing he thought I should make him for lunch. I don't think he appreciated my suggestion.

This was following our annual Spooooooky Halloween dinner that actually takes quite a bit of time and planning to get the timing and mood just right, but my kids (2 are in high school) can't live without. The only problem is they ooh and aah, then eat like rats in a dumpster and run off to party and trick or treat while I clean up and stay home to pass out candy by myself. (My husband takes our 9 year old out to ransack the neighborhood) Frankly, I'd rather just pass out.

Wow, that looks fabulous! I especially like how the bowl of soup resembles the color of a pumpkin. How appropriate for Halloween. I would dig having a chef who was both healthy and creative with my meals. Hell, I would just love having a chef period!

Happy Halloween!

"It's such an odd thing to be allergic to dairy."

it isn't really that strange, the milk of a cow is made for her calf. drinking human breast milk is actually more natural than drinking the milk of another animal.

Hi Ellen!

I really love your show, and run home after work so that I don't miss it.

Have you ever been in Puerto Rico? Maybe you should come and do your show downhere sometime. It would be terrific, and your fans would love to see our beautiful island through your eyes.

I'd really like to know how you make (genuine, jokes aside), faux cream. I developed lactose intolerance from overseas travel in 1990.

I can't believe people want to know every detail of what you eat for lunch. Aren't there more important things to do in this world?
I was just looking on how to enter the contest to be at your 50th b-day party & came across this stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still can't find it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Baby lettuce. mmmm!

I deeply feel the part about lactose intolerant though. I had to make mac and cheese with soy milk yesterday almost causing my stomach to leap from my body and run screaming down the street! I didn't even know that I was until last year when I ate ice cream for the last time ever, and then promptly was sick for three days. It's such an odd thing to be allergic to dairy. Why can't I just be allergic to something simple like mustard? I don't eat it a lot to start with. Faux cream however, ah. um. uncomfortable. Faux cream makes me want to be allergic but I adore tomato soup-with a touch of rice milk. Whatever bumps your bouey I guess!

Otherwise. Bon Apetite!
