Hey Ellen,
I need some advice, My adopted daughter is 20 yrs old, with a 1 yr old baby. No home, No car, No education. Nothing but a small job, which she is off now do to a surgery. She came home with nothing except the clothes on her back a baby to support and no job, or money or anything. We have tried to help her, but she met a really nice guy, which she went to a motel for her 20th birthday. I now wonder if she is trying to have another child and put me in a hole for dead. She is teaching my 12 year old all her little mistakes. I talk to her father and he says, so what let her do what she wants. Which is fine when she is not living with us. I have had all I can stand. She has tried to split us up before and I'm at the end of my rope. Please write back & give me some advice. Please tell my husband he is wrong for turning his back on her and not teaching her good advice as a father. Thanks so much. I love your show, you are so real. Please help

Ellen, first and foremost I think you are one of the most "human" of human beings. I have followed your career since it began and have always felt that you were a wonderful and honest person. Don't let people get you down. I think that what you did WAS the right thing but more so, you were honest with them and they tried to nail you for it. I pray that the little girl gets Iggy back and that you find some peace. Remember that no one can make us feel worse then we can make ourselves feel. I have always been and will continue to be a huge fan of yours. Not so much for your celebrity, but more for your humanity. I hope you get to see this and hope that it brings you even a glimmer of peace.
Be well....
Where are people getting the idea that the information about returning the dog was "in the FINE print"? And, why would it make a difference? Ellen is supposedly intelligent enough to sign a contract to perform on television, to buy a house, to do a number of things. Does she do all of this without reading the contract, fine print or no? Ellen went off on her own to do as she damned well pleased and when it didn't work out HER WAY she did the whining, sniveling, temper tantrum thing on national television so that her FANatics would go off the deep end and threaten the woman at the shelter. Ellen: are you proud of the results of you achieved? I hope not - you should be mortally ashamed. You are totally responsible for anything that happens to that woman and/or the rescue shelter. GROW UP!! Oh, I hope the shelter stands firm to NOT do as you want.
Am I missing something??....why can't the agency just re-adopt the dog out to this family?
Publicity?
Everyone is human & we all make mistakes...it is how we handle the mistake that gives us character & makes us stronger....by law, the agency did have a contract & in that contract it stated very plainly of what it expected out of you (the client)....you have mistakenly went against the agencies wishes, therefore, you do not have a case. You acted out of emotion & made your descision on good intentions, but the agency did not give you that right. When you love someone, something, some times you do not use your head...you use your heart. Now, looking back,(and in my opinion...which we all have one) "If" the situation could of been handled a different way BY FIRST you & then SECONDLY by the agency....it may have turned out a different way...now all you got is strife. Both of you are in the wrong & both of you need to apologize to one another (IN PUBLIC), since the situation was brought to the Publics' attention...we were drug in the middle of this....it reminds me of a childs' custody battle (that needs to be private)....it does NOT need to be blown out in the news like Hassleholf or Spears. It is sad. "If" & maybe you did, maybe you contacted the agency to say , hey,I wanna give my dog to so & so...& the agency could of given you options, then maybe something could of been worked out....then we, the public would be hearing a positive story on this instead of hearing about all the negative. I am going to assume...You have dealt with this agency before & they have done you right & have done others right as well...they are a good organization....they had a good reputation...why question them now...when it was you who didn't read the fine print. It is sad that a young girl was promised something by you that you can not provide....it is sad that the family may have been a good family to the dog & are unable to be....but sad to say that is life....when our decisions go wrong, sometimes the innocent have to pay....it will be hard for you to digest all of this that is going on in your life right now....but in time, you do learn from it & in the long run things do work out for the best for those who try to do right....And I know this for a fact...you were just trying to do right...so be patient, pray on it, & if you feel that you mistankenly did wrong, just ask for an apology from the daughter & the family & may I say, the agency...that will help, even if you feel you are in the right....we all make mistakes, I have made my share of them, we are not perfect....the only One perfect reigns above us & what did He recommend on how we handle our mistakes...
Apologize & ask for forgiveness, & do not be so bitter....all things work out, just give it time....
Ellen and Porsha,
Your home is beautiful. That is my dream house. Good luck in selling, and it you toss it in a lotto let me know. Are you going to follow up with a tour of your new home, or would that be to invasive. Wait did I already see that one. sorry to hear about your problem this week with Iggy, hope all turns out for the best. Ellen you make us laugh everyday, this is one thing my daughter and I do together is watch your show, and we share in your saddness. My daughter was so impressed to see you have normal feelings like the rest of us. She said it made you more real, human like. She is 15 and just loves you. We actually were lucky enough to get tickets last year and are hoping to get some for this year. Well we did get them but had an emergancy with my father so had to cancel. She wanted to know how old you have to be to be an intern on your show and if she could she would love to do it on her times off of school. She is going to go to the Film Institute in LA her dream is to be a producer. I pray every night she follows that dream. She has a few short 2 minute films she has done and they are quite entertaining. Happiness to you both.
Valerie and Haileigh
First of all, its just a dog. However, I can't believe that once the dog is in your home, you can't find another home for it if it doesn't work out for you. In our area, dogs and cats are being destroyed every day because the shelter can't find a home for them. You did the shelter a service by finding another good home for the dog. In the end though, I can't believe how out of proportion this got. Its just a dog.
You have a beautiful home, maybe one day we will have one like it, not, but seriously your home is beautiful, how great it must be to relax and come home in the evenings and feel welcomed. My little boy would be living in that tree and i would never get the two girls and he out of the yard, what a great place for kids. One day!
HEY ELLEN
I THINK YOUR GREAT DON'T LET ALL THESE PEOPLE GET YOU DOWN EVERY BODY MAKES MISTAKES IT'S WHAT YOU DO ABOUT THEM THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.SO KEEP SMILING AND DANCING AND I WILL KEEP WATCHING.DO YOU THINK YOU COULD HAVE SAM ELLIOT ON YOUR SHOW I AM SO ATTRACTED TO HIM THANKS ....MELANIE
Dear Ellen,
My name is Justin B. Williams and I am writing this e-mail because I want to go to Harvard Medical School. I actually wrote in before, but for something totally different. I am a young African American male who received a B. S. degree from Morehouse College and a Masters degree in public health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. I am currently enrolled in a two-year post baccalaureate program called “MEDPREP” at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. When my time is done at MEDPREP, I would like to matriculate into the Harvard Medical School in-coming class of 2009.
There is no subtle way to break this, but in order to improve my chances of acceptance I came up with the idea of asking Oprah Winfrey for a character reference, or if you will, a letter of recommendation. I realize that this is not the most of conventional ways of going about asking for it. Nonetheless, Harriet Tubman and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for example were not very conventional about their ideals and the way they set out to accomplish their goals either.
I would not be going to these lengths if I did not feel it was extremely necessary. For the year of 2008, “U. S. News and World Report” has ranked Harvard Medical School #1 in the country for receiving a medical school degree. Every year, over 5,500 applicants apply for only 164 seats that Harvard Medical School has to provide. With that said, I was hoping, with your help I could get the word out there, over the airwaves. I hope that by word of mouth, my story can make it all the way to Oprah. After that point, the decision of whether to agree to meet with me/interview me in order to write a character reference on my behalf (or not) is up to her.
Let me make one thing clear… I am not asking Oprah for a house, a car, an acting career, or to even get me out of debt. I just need someone to believe in me, and what I am trying to do. Please Ellen, will you help me get my story out there. It is not much but I did find time to set up a “My Space” page, which goes into a little more detail. You can visit it by searching for my user name: “OPERATION: Harvard, Med.”
Alternatively, you can just e-mail me directly:

Thank you for at least reading this.
Justin B. Williams, (future physician)
Ellen,
I know everyone has an opinion. I understand that the rule was written into your contract. I understand that you did what you did. The rule is in place for people that abuse the situation. There should be a place where there are situations that the rules don't apply and I think that your situation is one of them. Obviously there is more to this adoption agency than meets the eye. I can't for the life of me understand why this woman would not talk to the family before yanking the puppy away from them and see if the home situation is a good one. She obviously has an agenda and what that is, I can't see. I feel for you and the family. Thank you for making people aware of the problems with pet adoptions. I hope this lady(I'm sure she is a good person, after all she is an animal lover) takes a step back and takes a good look at what is "right" and what is just "wrong". Good luck.
Judy(the other Judy)
You did the right thing Ellen.
I feel badly for the doggie.
Hopefully Iggy will settle down now in
a loving home with no more drama.
This story will shed light on the
practices of these shelters which should be
guided by the principle of always acting in the best interests of the animal.
(((((hugs))))))))

We love you so much, that know matter what we are doing, we have to stop and watch your show. We would love it if you could put us on your My Space friends list. It would be so great, and just maybe we could win that "Flat Screen TV".
Also, congrats on your marriage. We love both of you.
