Anonymous,
ya know its not her fault, it was rude for them to take the dog away. But ya know some (and by some i mean some) people actually care for animals like Iggy. Ya Ellen made a mistake by giving Iggy away but she didn't mean to. Like she said "she didn't read the whole contract" but ya know it was an accident. lots of peolple make um. she didn't mean to do it so stop being so rude to people, like Dakota. At least he actually cares!!!
maybe you could take advice from some these people. and no its not time for them to take this video off so forget that idea
Australia, nobody took Iggy away, Ellen gave him away in breech of a contract she signed. It was the rescues legal right to reclaim him per the agreement they failed to honor. Dont feel sorry for Ellen, it isnt the first time she has done this.
To Ellen,
I was really sad when I heard about Iggy...........
They shouldn't of taken him away.......
PS: I reckon you could post these comments to the people that took away Iggy.......
My sympathy goes to you,
Ellen
LOVE,
Dakota

Ellen,
So, you're coming to Chicago and you're going to have the river dyed blue and march up Michigan Avenue and have Lou's deep dish pizza but, you are not going to meet Minos, a dog from the island of Crete. That will be a shame because he has a story to tell or bark. From the time I had to teach mythology to freshmen, I had wanted to go to Greece and finally, in September, my daughter and I went to Greece. We went to Athens, Mykinos, Santorini and Crete. Did and saw everything I wanted to do and see. We came home with icons, scarves, olive oil, olives, jewelry and a dog. Yes, a dog---a little homeless street dog that we met in Crete. He was lying in the middle of the road surrounded by buses, cars and motorcycles and since we missed our tour bus, I decided to see if he was hurt--he wasn't, he just didn't know where to go. I picked him up and carried him to the sidewalk and so began our odyssey.I don't know if you know that on these islands, the tourist season ends in October because of the weather and the roughness of the sea. What happens however, is while the tourist season is in full swing, the dogs and cats are fed by the tourists. When the touists leave, the animals are left and in many cases because there are so many animals people on the islands poison them. Why they don't spay or neuter them---I don't know nor do the people who are involved with helping the animals know--except they say "no one does." We met a lady on Mykinos--we called her the "cat lady"because every day she would leave food for the strays. There are people who are concerned and want to have a shelter for the strays but it takes money. On Santorini, there is a shelter but they exist on donations from tourists. On Crete there is an "underground" system--in fact, it was through a woman in the UK that we were able to get Minos ( the dog) home to Chicago. They send animals to Germany, Austria, some to the UK and a few to the states. Minos is bilingual--can give a high five in English and paw in Greek. He has his own passport and a tail that never stops wagging. He can't dance, well, maybe a Greek dance or two--can you do Greek? He never barked while in Greece not even when we snuck him in to the hotel. I asked the vet about this and he said "he was shy" but once he hit these American shores--he became a true American and now barks up a storm. I watched and listened about Oscar and Kelly and her horse and I realized how much you love animals so, since you have such a big heart and most importantly, you're in a position to help causes---I want to tell you about an organization called WSPA(World society for protection of animals) Their vision: a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty ends. Their mission: to build a united global animal welfare movement. How good it would be to let people know they CAN help animals through WSPA. And you really don't have to go to Greece to get a dog but, thank God,I did.

This is just a note for info for Ellen, check with the local vet's office and make arrangements to get Federal financing for a shelter in your Name, It can Happen and it will for you and dont give up Hope, Keep a possitive out look, It can be your calling other than your talk show, Your name, and being the person whom you are will generate responses, Keep up the good work! and Good luck! Sincerely, Pat Hedgepath
I am from a rural, country area, and animals are abundant here. I think everyone knows where to dump their dogs and kitties, cause we do take care of them.Depending of course if we can catch them first, 7 times out of 10, we can find homes for them, but, usually the nearest pound gets them and trys to find homes for them, the trouble is when people get an animal they really find out that the respondsibility is huge and it takes money to feed and the vet bills can be enormous, and they are not willing to go the distance for them, what a shame! I could tell you some horror stories about finding a bag full of dead puppies in a ditch, garbage bag, actually, my dog found the bag, and she's sitting on the side of the road, whinning, it's a very sad sight for even me to witness.Animals have feelings thats why they can give unconditional Love they can feel!God Help the people that do things like this.Cause he's the one, that they have to appease when it comes their time to go. A very Compassionistic Person
Hey dogless Laurie, Ever think about dropping the husband and taking up dog rescue? Dogs love you unconditionally and never tell you what you can and cant have. 28 years without a loving pet must have been lonely. Statically, people with pets live longer because they help relieve stress. Take him to the pound and let him see all the sad faces of dogs who will soon die if they dont find a home. Perhaps one of them will touch his heart.
I'm sorry about IGGY!!!!!!
We would LOVE a little dog but my husband WON'T ALLOW IT!!!!!!
Maybe if it came from you he couldn't refuse it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just an IDEA!!!!!!

Hi Ellen,
I don't know if I should be emailing you this but I just think that with your kind heart and celebrity you would be able to bring this issue to the american people and the world. On friday March 28th, the annual canadian seal hunt began. I am appalled and ashamed that this is still going on. The hunted baby seals are only hunted for their fur, their skinned carcasses are left on the ice to rot(often times still alive). Its not as if you're feeding people with the meat or using any other part of the seal, it is truly just for people's vanity. The world needs to see what is going on on the ice flows of Canada. I know the govt. says its to keep the fish stocks from depleting but the truth is our fish stocks have been depleted because of man's greed, from overfishing our waters and for not stopping foreign vessels from overfishing. I have been forwarding videos I receive from PETA and the HSUS for years to everyone I know, but have yet to see any celebrity, other than Paul McCartney actually have the guts to bring this issue to the forefront. There needs to be a huge public outcry regarding this, this is a senseless hunt, cruel and barbaric. It the canadian govt. really wanted to deplete the numbers of seals why not shoot the adults, why kill only the babies, its heartbreaking and I really hope that in some way you can bring this issue to light. Thanks for listening, yours truly ashamed canadian citizen

Hi Ellen, I love your show, I think it's the best talk show on t.v. I just wanted to tell you I had my dog nuetered 3/25/08 and he died from a simple operation, I want to tell everyone what happened to my baby his name was Monster, I want the vet to be responsible for what they did to him, they won't even help me pay over $5,000 for his hospital bill. Please let me know if you know anyone who can help make them pay.
Hi Ellen, I am sorry all that happened with one dog. The sad state of affairs is that there are so many starving to death and dying because people throw them out on the roadside I know someone down in Southern Ohio who is struggling terribly trying to feed and care for some of these animals but truly has no means can hardly feed them. There is no Humane Society down there. I am trying to sell some items on
E bay to raise a lttle money. I do not have much but the little I can scrape up I will it is a pitiful situation. I wish you could see.
My name on E bay is fbrush58 I have up for auction a putter signed by Brett Favre in case you know of anyone and with all these people upset about Iggy maybe they would like to really help the one's starving and injured. I am calling out for help. Not publicity. Not T V this is a need that is truly real. Do you know of anyone who can help this situation? I know you care deeply about animals and I relly don't know where to turn. Any Ideas?
Sincerely, Karen M. Nagle
Ellen! You need to get your people talking to Dish Network to carry your show! I keeep emailing them....but they are no help!! I miss your show so much! The only time I get to see it is when I go to my mom's....which isn't often. We MISS you here!!!
i saw your show today and i agree stop hate. i am from kitchener ontario canada just turned 58 on the 17th of feb. when i think of that little boy killed by someone who didn't like gay's . i have to stop and think where did were thoughts? was he a troubled teen? i feel sorry for him as well as the boy that died. in my generation growing up i never knew such a thing like gays or lesbians. i never met one till 1973. i was caretaker in a building and these 2 guys were gay. and one was a hairdresser and we grew to know him and i was scared because i was married to a man. but we girls would meet for coffee at each other's apt and he always came and joined us. we had some good times with john.but when i went to work in a factory here in kitchenerin 1986, i met a few girls that were gay and that scared me even more. but i got to know them and 20 years later these girls are great. i love the way you get the utmost respect from them. i learned that they have feelings as well, and that matters. i am no better than they are. i firmly believe that your show will get alot of these fears people have about the gay/lesbian. i am grateful that you made it public cause your sex preference is your business not others. i have the utmost respect for you and what you mean to alot of people.keep up the good work.i'll keep watching you.
Sent you a very good pic of my boxers....you wont be sorry....gotta see them. "Boston" and "Vegas"

I AM SO BUMMED!! Recently, I changed from cable to Dish Network and your show is not available on their system. Seems that in the infinite wisdom of some program scheduler - whether local or not- you are on a local access channel that Dish Network will not pick up. Who knew! What am I to do without my Ellen?? The winter days are even grayer because you are not in them!
And since I have signed up for a 2 year contract I am really at a loss. Oh well, I just wanted to whine a little I guess.
You have a dear, dear heart Ellen, and thank you for sharing it with so many. LOVE YOU TOO MUCH, Lyn
Dear Ellen, I watch your show every morning with my cup of coffee to get my daily laugh. I see the caring person you always seem to be,and I often ask myself why can't everyone be so kind hearted? My guestion to you is what do you think about deadbeat dads? Sometimes life isn

Thanks
Dear Ellen,
I have written to you numerous times. I just saw your show with Garth Brooks and my husband said there was something about dogs who watch TV. I of course was making him something to eat and missed it. Anyway my sisters dog watches TV and if he is not watching and knows a commercial he'll come running if he likes the song. Or these attorneys for car accidents he barks at. It's pretty amazing! He knows when I call my sister that it's me on the phone, so my sister says. We are of sound mind, it's very strange and funny to us too!

Hi Ellen,
I feel like I know you as you and my best friend from when I was young look so much alike. Her name is Susan and even though Susan and I only see each other once a year I feel like I see her each day when I watch your show.
You make me laugh and I just want to say thank you to you for the doing that.

Ellen,
I know what it like to lose a dog. It is the most heartbreaking thing to happen to anyone. Within a two year period, I had to put down 3 dogs. Mikie, poodole-cokcpoo mix, which he looked like a poocock, was 21 years old and went blind and started to lose his mind, the scond one was Bailey a full blooded lab that 15 years old, she lost the ust of her back legs and the last was my baby Trudy, I got her from a dear friend who died in a hooriable accident and I also found that I would never have children one week later. She liver to be 17 years old and lost all veretabrees in her back.
I have been Clinnacally depressed ever since
Love you much
Monica Pinkston
hey ellen,
your show is truly unique! because of your celebrity status, i know you have a lot of contacts and resources that i don't. i'm a just a goofy, single-mom, animal loving, minnesota dwelling person. my dogs and son are my life....however in the darn winters in the twin cities there is no where to play w/ your dogs that's warm. i need help fundraising for an indoor dog park...interested? i've done all the planning and shopping for the items w/in the dog park, just need help w/ the finances.
Again, love ur show and your dancing...makes me dance too....thanks for everything u do. Katie from minnesota.
I lost my puppy for an hour or so and lost my mind until I found him. Being a first time puppy or animal owner I was terrified until I found him.
T.
I really know how it feels to lose an animal. The family pet was found drowned in the beack pond early this morning and the family is devastated. He "Sparky" was a jack russell and loved by everyone. I say a prayer for your petg woes daily. Hopefully you can just put me in your thoughts for a second. I know your a busy woman. Thats why everyone loves you... nat
Hi Ellen,
Love your show!!!! When are you coming to Atlanta, Georgia. We in the south would love to see you. God bless you for putting smiles on everyones face. In this world we need more people like you.

Dear Ellen (My sister is still writing this for me), I meant to also mention how much I appreciate that you mention how important it is to get pets from rescue shelters. I bet it has helped a lot of animals. The dog I lost recently had a seizure that caused his death. Its been so cold (20-30 below zero) that I had to have a stove/fire over a place in the yard for a few days to thaw it out enough to bury him. My other rescue dog is younger and we both enjoy your show, and your humor warms us up even when its 30 below!
Thanks for cheering us up and helping rescue pets.
Sincerely, Phil
Dear Ellen--Love your show, your laughs, and the dancing. My sister is actually sending this to you b'cs I do not have an or a computer. I live in Alaska and its like 20 below (zero) which gives me a chance to sit by the wood stove, warm up and watch your show. I just lost my 2nd rescue dog (ali) and its hard getting over it. He had a good life (he was always warm even in winter & liked your show too) --I would love to visit your site everyday but w/o a computer its difficult. If your give-a-ways ever include a computer I hope you remember me, and my dog (the one that is still here) so we can visit your site every day.
Every good wish for the Holidays, and Thanks for cheering me up with your terrific sense of humor!
Phil

Ellen thank god for you and your show I was let go from my job of 10 years on Monday (I have never been jobless before) my 3 kids ages 13 6 and 2 are estatic and I would probably of gone of the deep end with worry and stress by now if it weren't for you positivity. You are a wonderful person and everyone needs a little ellen in there life.
Dear Ellen,
I know tomorrow starts your 12 days of christmas give aways and wanted to send you a suggestion. Since you had so much success in passing a jar around the audience when collecting for breast cancer I think you should continue that and combine it with your give away. This way you could give your audience the chance to pay it forward. I believe you will be giving the audience a present each day spending joy and cheer to all of your audience. Well why not give them the chance to do the same. Collect money for children's charities from the audience by passing that same jug and hopefully your kindness will start a trend that continues on right then and there. With the money you could help maybe pets or children from the california fires in need at the holiday and bring joy not only to the audience but to the others in need as well. Plus I think people who are happy tend to give the most and since you studio is probably the second happiest place on earth (first being Disney of coarse !!!!
There is a video on videovat.com about aboriginal dancers doing Greek style dancing. They have their paint on their bodies. At the end they dance to Zorba the Greek music. I thought you might find it funny enough for your show.
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
If there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself
Where is my mind.
Brittnay,
Glad we could help. Please let us know how it turns out, either here or on the ellensblogaholics.com forum. Good luck to you and your mom. Do this for Ebby and all the other dogs and cats out there that are being abused like Ebby was.
Have a good one, hope to see you soon, will be looking for your hopefully happy outcome.
thank you all for your response i do apprciate them. i have an apponintnment with some attorny i dont want to do this but i am doing it for that 150lbs ebby deserves it she needs someone to fight for her. mayybe i should add tis to my major at JSU. animal right hahaha or something like that.
and thank you Anonymous your coments are going to stay with me and are very true.
WOW Thats a heart breaker. If the rescue was truly concerned about the welfare of the dogs, they could have gotten a medical clearance from Ms Williams doctor (with her permission) and released them back to her. Im sure she would have been more than willing to offer a donation to the rescue for caring for them while she was unable. I once made my husband take my 2 cats to the pound after one killed a beloved pet bird. It had been a gift to my son from my mom who had since died. I was so horribly distraught over the loss of the little bird, I never wanted to see those cats again. Of course within a few days I regretted the decision and felt I had to retrieve my cats from the pound. They understood and after paying a boarding fee, I took my kitties home. I dont know why some people feel they have to make a power play. Who does it really benefit?
I thought this story might interest some of you. The website where you can read everything on it including court documents is www.bringhomeduganandjake.com
This website has been updated as of October 30, 2007.
IT HAS BEEN NEARLY ONE YEAR…12 MONTHS…358 DAYS and counting…that two beloved and well-cared-for senior Golden Retrievers named Dugan and Jake have been HELD HOSTAGE from their owner by a dog rescue group based in Scottsdale, Arizona known as the Arizona Golden Retriever Connection (AZGRC).
The owner, 39-year old Joanne Williams of Chandler, Arizona, has passionately, relentlessly, and exhaustingly tried every potential avenue to reclaim Dugan and Jake, ages 10 and 9 respectively, whom she has raised since puppy hood.
She mistakenly turned them over to the volunteer rescue group on December 2, 2006 yet asked for their return with 72 hours. At the time, she was suffering post-traumatic stress disorder as well as situational depression and anxiety from a pregnancy loss at six months and was under medical care.
A legal battle has waged since February with no end or trial in sight. AZGRC’s leadership remains steadfast in refusing to publicly discuss its reasons for not returning Dugan and Jake to their owner citing “legal restraints.” Public outrage and debate, as well as a recommendation from its national golden retriever rescue committee to return the dogs did not bring home Dugan and Jake.
The leaders refer to Dugan and Jake as their “property”, claiming they now “own” the dogs, since a dog is considered “property” in Arizona as in many states. They also claim that returning the dogs “would set a precedent” as well as it being “in the best interest of the dogs” to not return them to Ms. Williams.
This “legal paper shuffle” is estimated to have already amassed combined legal fees and expenses exceeding $100,000. AZGRC reports itself to be a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 volunteer organization relying upon donated monies to support its operations. It governs itself and reports to no one.
From a consumer protection standpoint, there is currently NO agency in the state of Arizona that provides oversight, regulation, control or licensing of non-profit corporations including animal rescue and animal welfare organizations. There is also NO person, organization, or agency in Arizona with which an individual can talk, file a complaint, or request assistance regarding an issue with an Arizona non-profit organization.
This allows a non-profit organization, like the Arizona Golden Retriever Connection (also dba Arizona Golden Retriever Rescue) to do what it wants without any fear of reprisals. The leaders are judgmental and authoritative, believing they have the superior knowledge on who should have a dog and who should not. They are out of control and demonstrate no concern or compassion for anyone who differs with their decisions and viewpoints.
So nearly one year later, the questions still remain…
Why won’t Arizona Golden Retriever Connection rescue return Dugan and Jake to their rightful owner, Ms. Williams, who has begged, pleaded, and is spending her life’s savings for their return to her?
Why does AZGRC want to waste the Maricopa County court time and taxpayer dollars along with donated funds to pay legal fees from the two most expensive law firms in Phoenix to stall and drag out this legal battle by filing motion after motion?
How does the AZGRC leadership justify its actions to its dues-paying members when its mission clearly states it is dedicated to finding safe, loving, and permanent homes for unwanted Golden Retrievers in Arizona?
Maybe its members and donors simply haven’t been told the story about Dugan and Jake.
An overview of Dugan & Jake’s story can be read by clicking on this link.
Here is response number 2 from a PA rescue . Again, I copied and pasted as it was written only removing my name and the name of the rescue.
Here are the general guidelines we go by, please don’t construe this as a policy statement or legal representation:
In general practice animals here have the right of return for life, ‘always can come back’ and we generally want to be notified if an animal changes hands. We generally do not charge a fee or anything else if someone wants to re-home an animal that has been adopted from us. We just ask that the new home meets the standards that we adopted the animal to the original owner under. In practice, we aren’t sure how completely enforceable that is and truthfully there are things outside this that you have to take under consideration. For instance: Do you really care if the daughter of a deceased person takes on ownership of the cat you adopted to the parent? If they care enough to give it a home, you are probably just grateful they aren’t returning it to you.
We do, do follow up calls on homes that have adopted from us, but we’ve found if an animal is given up it’s usually returned to us in the first place which makes the rest moot.
I hope this helps,
-George B.

Brittany, Karen is right. If you have animal control in your area, they may be able to help. Even you local human society is there to provide assistance with cruelty cases. Beware that if you involve them, you will also come under investigation. Your neighbor will try to make it all your fault and your animals and property will also be scrutinized to see if the neighbor has a valid complaint. If he is doing what you say, there is no justification for his actions.
Brittnay,
My suggest to you and your mom would to be to take this to your local animal control agency. Unless this man works for them or something, they could help with getting an investigation going. All they need is you to suspect that he did it. That will spark an investigation, and he could be formally charged with killing your pets.
At one time where I lived, a very prominent Indian doctor,in our area was raising dogs to use for his families consumption. I was recruited to go investigate this myself. I did, and I dont want to talk about what I witnessed. It was horrible. I dont know if this man was ever charged. It was years ago, and back then the animal rights laws were different. Animal cruelty was a misdemeanor, not a felony in those days. Its now a felony , thank the good lord above. And thank P.E.T.A. and the A.S.P.C.A. also.
But that is my suggestion to you, and sometimes we have to involve the media on things like this. I know you dont want to do it, and your mom doesnt either, but getting it out there may stop him or at least start an investigation on this man.
Also , im so very sorry about Ebby. Im sure you loved her very much.
Hope all goes well for you and your mom

Brittany, I had a similar situation where the police wouldnt help me because the person I had a problem with was in law enforcement too. They insisted there was no crime being committed. We got a lawyer and he went to the distric attorney. I know lawyers can be expensive but sometimes it is our only choice. They have access to resources that sometimes we do not know how to use. I have a neighbor who does not like my dogs and has put up an 8 ft stockade fence between our properties. I guess its better than doing harm to my pets. Sometimes lawyers offer free consultations. I would suggest calling your free legal aid service if you have one and they can offer a list of lawyers who will see you for free and decide if they can help you. Once your neighbor knows he is being watched, he may stop this behavior on his own. If he is a cop then he may feel he is above the law and has the right to do waht he is doing. Dont be fooled, they are held to the same standards as the rest of us, sometimes we just have to remind them.
Brittany:
That sounds like an awful experience. I do not quite understand why the police do not do anything? What is this person to the town/city?
I guess I would need to know more about this person and what seems to be the problem with mobilizing your law enforcement to investigate him? Something seems off. Is it that there isn't enough proof to initiate an investigation into this figure? What is his relevance to your community?
If you have a problem with how the police are responding to your complaint there are other people you can take this to. I am not sure who or where you go, but I would imagine you could write your elected representatives, like your mayor, or even try speaking with someone further up the food chain at the Police Station—the Chief of Police? Something sounds off though, so I would start with who this person is and what seems to be the hang-up on investigating him. Try your District or States Attorney, as well.
I am not sure if that helps, but if this guy is doing what you’re saying he’s doing than someone will help you, you just haven’t spoken to the right one yet.
If no one in the city will help you go to the county, if the county doesn't help you go to the state, if the state doesn't help you go to an animal rights organization or the media
Looks like somebody is trying to be an instigator. There aren't fights going on here and people are discussing their opinions and ideas without being attacked for them. Sounds kinda nice doesnt it? Jones had his opinions just as we all have ours. He has made many points and chose to challenge people to bring facts to the table. Some people behaved aggressively and some chose to remain civil. Most people felt more strongly about one side or the other but remained open minded enough to try to debate. It is not our place to forgive either of the parties involved. This is their issue and should they feel the need to forgive, they can do it for themselves. We all know Marina acted rashly and Ellen let her emotions get in the way of working this out quietly. What's done is done and Iggy wont be returning to Cheryl's. If she or Ellen feel there has been an injustice, it is up to them to pursue this. We cannot hold their hands and none of the arguing, name calling, personal attacks, challenges, and nasty behavior here will change any of that. Anybody who chooses to post or not to post here, does so of their own free will. Jones is a strong individual who has made his case and probably sees no reason to continue to repeat himself. Im sure we all have something better we could be doing.
It seems quite sad to me that the only person preaching forgiveness and actually seeking resolution and reconciliation has been apparently driven away with incessant insults and attacks.
And the attacks and lies continue, and it appears jones is gone.
I hope not, but I certainly can understand why.
I know several of you will respond with more lies and also attack me, but I will tell you that I have gone as far back as this blog allows, and jones has done nothing but preach peace, forgiveness, and possible solutions and has demonstrated a pure motive.
You who continue to attack this person have done none of these things, and I am sure you shall continue to do so. But anyone who reads what a horrible mean person this jones is should know that it is a lie, and the truth is on these pages for all to see.
jones has also been rude, but only to those who have attacked first.
Read the posts.
When one sits and does nothing in the face of injustice, this is not neutral.
I have my opinions and I bet many do but I will not post them here, and I bet many feel the same way. Thank you for your positive suggestions, jones, and your humor.
Brittany Bazemore
I know where you can get help. You need to sign up on a brand new forum and then post your story, and the people there will help you. You have to sign up before you can post there. You may get some help here, but there are some nasty people here who may pretend to be your friend, so be very careful here,

Dear Ellen or anyone with a sugestion,
First of all let me tell yon how much my mom and I enjoy you show. You are a wonderful inspiration to everyone. I wanted to write to you and first say I am so sorry for “Iggie”. I am an animal person my self and I know how hard thing like this are. My mom and I tried to adopt a puppy after Katrina and they said no to us. Go figure. I wonted to tell you of my situation. Around eighteen months ago I found a wonderful puppy for my mom “EBBY” she very soon became my heart. She was the world to me. On December 17, 2006 my perfect and wonderful and happy 13 year old sheltie died, and Ebby stayed with her until I found her gone. It killed me. I shut down, Ebby came over to me and gave me a kiss and stayed with me helped me Barrie her and never left my side as if muffin told her to. That bring us to three weeks ago Monday November 5 2007, when my mom and I were awaken to her yelling and screaming she did not make it. The vet said they thought she was poisoned. Our next door person who lives behind was out side with a cup the last time she was outside and he is know for killing many of my animals. So they stay in as much as possible. I do not know what to do because he works for the city the police will not do anything and city will not do anything. Not even the city attorney we went to will not do anything. I am very afraid if we go to the news that went the dust settles and the light are gone then we are still stuck here. We can not afford to move. If there is anything you can do please let me know.
Thank you
Brittany Bazemore
Believe it or not, many people know there was an issue with a dog and it had something to do with Ellen, bu thats where it ends. I believe that rescues I polled will be honest with me. Regardless of their knowledge about the case, many will still stand by their own rules. I'm sure Marina believes she did the right thing and as a rescuer/foster I have signed many of those contracts with adopters. When I watxh her interview with access hollywood, she is calm and states her reasons for her actions. I dont think she is a nut case but I do believe she felt cornered and stuck to her guns as a matter of principal. Im sure any celebrity would expect special tretment and get it. Any normal person would be intimidated by a person much more powerful than themselves and more than likely go out of their way to please them. Its hard to draw a line there. As far as Ellens behavior, I agree that she didnt take it all as seriously as Marina did. She said the dog just needs to go back to the family and also that all a rescue is supposed to do is place the dog in a good home. Well, its obvious she doesnt really understand our purpose and simplifies it in her mind. It isnt that simple. Unfortunately I must head off to work now but I shall return tomorrow to continue this conversation. Hopefully you will be safe while Im away. LOL
Here is the problem with getting opinions from other rescues. They are judging this situation first, from outside of it and with 20/20 hindsight of what happened with Marina's handling. You know what I mean? It's hard to get at what they would do when facing Marina's choices with all that was occurring. First, I will admit that Marina probably was acting on both her and Iggy's interests. And I don't mean financially. If I were Marina and I had just found out that Ellen had given away a dog that I was suppose to be included in on, I would at first be upset. But if Ellen worked with me and seemed genuinely understanding of my position I probably would be able to keep my wits about it. But it doesn't really sound like Ellen did that. She didn't try cooperating with Marina when things were still in the position of being salvageable. Even after her initial outcry on air, she came back the next day and said, "This is ridiculous, the dog needs to go back to the family." I mean its sort of a slap in the face first by not following the contract, but than it got furthered along by being dismissive. I think Marina acted like a person who had been overlooked and dismissed, so she decided to fix it herself. I mean my biggest problem with Ellen is why didn't she just comply with Marina once she realized her err. Marina, like anybody, needs her autonomy in what she does, just as Ellen would expect and demand in her own world. That notion has been overlooked because Marina was failing to keep her responsibility with the dog, but she can't do that with out respecting herself first.
I found this on the Inside EDITION WEBSITE
Marina Baktis tells INSIDE EDITION that after the Ellen adoption debacle, her rescue business is on hold.
According to Denise Haynes, Iggy was on the brink of death, and Baktis nursed him back to health.
She's the embattled woman at the center of the Ellen DeGeneres dog drama.
Now Marina Baktis is out of hiding, back at the very shelter where she rescued Iggy, and speaking exclusively to INSIDE EDITION about how her life has been forever changed by the Iggy adoption scandal.
According to Baktis, the drama that ensued when Ellen went public with the Iggy adoption mishap, has affected her ability to now adopt and place dogs. Baktis was besieged by violent threats after Ellen's hysterical on-air plea to return Iggy to her hairdresser's family.
Though Baktis was portrayed as a villain, what many people don't know is that she actually saved the adorable puppy's life.
"Iggy wasn't going to be here much longer," says Denise Haynes, the division chief for Kern County Animal Control. She shared the untold story of the dog that'd captured the country's attention with INSIDE EDITION.
An officer from the city of Bakersfield brought Iggy in as a stray. The puppy was rescued from the street and brought into the shelter. According to the shelter, the puppy was about three months old, and was listed as a black terrier/poodle mix. The pooch was actually named Caleb by the shelter.
Then he was put up for adoption, but after just a few days the puppy, now known to the world as Iggy, got sick. As a result, Iggy was brought to the D kennel, where dogs that are sick, injured or have a bad temperament are housed. It's also the last stop before they are euthanized.
The shelter kept Iggy alive because Baktis said she would take Iggy, nurse him back to health and find him a family. He was just a day, maybe two, from being put to sleep.
The Animal Control chief says, that Marina Baktis did, in fact, save Iggy's life.
It was then that Ellen's girlfriend Portia di Rossi came into Baktis's shelter and fell in love with the puppy. What followed is now TV history.
Haynes says she understands why Baktis made such a fuss when Ellen gave Iggy away. "She just wanted to make sure that he was going to be in a home where he was going to stay forever and he was going to be treated appropriately by all members of the household."
Baktis says Iggy is now in a loving and happy home, but she is still devastated. Since the Ellen scandal, she says she can't rescue any dogs and was forced to shut down her non-profit agency, Mutts and Moms.
"People were putting in pretend applications, filled with nothing with profanity, so we can't take a chance right now that someone won't pretend to adopt and do something." "Ultimately, it's the animals who pay the price," says the animal lover.
I dont begrudge her the opportunity to tell her side of the story. I did not see the interview on Inside edition (I think thats what I was told) Im sure she was overwhelmed in the beginning and thats why she basically hid. Wouldnt you if someone threatened your life? I know that as a rescuer I would have been floored to face such a powerful person and see my whole carreer flash before my eyes. I have emailed maybe 4 or so rescues at this point to ask how they would handle the same situation and have gotten one response already. So far it is 100% in favor of allowing the transfer of the dog to a person of the adopters choice provided they are a good home. You may ask who decides what a good home is. Obviously the rescue does but I dont see them purposely saying a home isnt fit just to get the dog back for more money. It isnt about that like some people think it is. Granted, some people are in it for the money and thats a shame. They are the ones with a revolving door and move the animals in and out quickly without making sure they are properly vetted first. Some people would argue that is what Marina did. We know she made at least one mistake but we dont know that she has a history of that so we cant judge based on one incident.
I wasn't trying to intimidate I was just disclosing myself in case someone recognized my writing and wanted to shoot out another attack.
Anyhow about your comment of why now? I have no idea. Perhaps she had time to let things settle and became angered by how she was being perceived by the media. Sometimes it is smarter to wait a bit and let things die down before you try combating the firestorms. I don't begrudge her that because she has the right to be heard regardless of when and where she chose to do that. Ellen was given her chance, so why not allow Marina the same?
Behold, Ace and any other AKA's , I am not intimidated by who you are or your opinions. I am her to discuss them as you are so I know we can debate civilly. I understand your point about Marina being an underdog, but I guess Im wondering why she has decided to go on television now, after everything has died down. Of couse she has lost her business and her credibility as a rescuer. Unfortunately she is partially responsible for that. I am not an Ellen supporter, I dont even watch her show, so please dont assume I am taking sides. I am merely trying to understand why each party chose the route they took. Marina had pleanty if time to go on the news programs in the beginning. You cant expect me to believe she wasnt swamped with offers for an interview. So why didnt she and why now? Its just reopening old wounds and I dont think its necessary at this point. Do you?
I don't know what programs Marina went on, but I would half to say that she was the underdog in this mess. Ellen devoted a week to this issue and had several guests come on her show and speak on her behalf. Marina has been forced “to get what she can” sort to speak from anyone who has been willing to air her side. It’s hard to say one has acted less classy than the other when Ellen has been afforded the position to be heard and express herself on her own terms by having a direct link to the American public. It doesn't seem quite like a level playing field. By the way, I am Ace...and the perceived "Troll" of this blog.
Behold, You are not alone in your observations. Im sure you well know that this has been an issue from the beginning. The point has been made that this is a site sponsored by Ellen so what would you expect. The important issue is that we remain open mined and be willing to do a little work on finding out the truth. I am a rescuer as well as an adopter so I can see the issue from both sides. I also will not tolerate being abused but am willing to discuss the issues with anyone who is willing to remain civil. I personally think that Marina initially wanted to enforce her contract as per her rights BUT since she had not followed her own policy from the beginning of the adoption, things got a little out of control. There was no need for her to lie to Cheryl and say she was coming to do a home visit and then snatch up Iggy right then and there. Yes, I believe that this was set in motion by Ellens lack of attention to what Portia signed and her lack of response once she found out she made a mistake. But let's face it, there was no reason for things to get so out of control. Regardless of who said what first, each party had a responsibility and both parties failed. An emotional plee on an entertainment program was not appropriate and Marina's continued appearances on talk programs is classless. So where do we go from here?
Has anyone noticed the paralleling treatment of The Marina defenders compared with how Marina herself has been treated? The Marina naysayers have defended Ellen’s actions as honorable and provoked. They omit her public outcry and instead blame Marina for making her do it. Just as they omit their own mistreatment of Marina Bloggers and claim again that their actions were provoked while the people here who have agued on Marina’s behalf have been coined “Creators of this Problem.”
Does anyone else find this compelling?
Ok Folks, here is my first response from a rescue located here in PA. I have copied and pasted as it was written only removing my own name. I used a family member as an example of a potential new home.
I do agree with the policy that the group that Ellen got her dog from. However, we would have handled it differently. We would have contacted your sister and if we thought that was a suitable home, we would let her take the dog. We would not ask for another donation for the dog either. The reason that we have that clause in the contract is to protect the dog. We don't want it ending up in a bad home or a shelter. We take responsibility for the dog from life.
You do have ownership of the dog until you can't or won't keep it any longer. That is when ownership comes into play for the rescue. We are basically second in line after you.
I hope I answered your questions.
Beth
I just finished e mailing 2 rescues to poll them to see what their position is on the contract issue and the rights of the adopter to make decisions for their own dog. Cant wait to see what they have to say. Im going to ask a few other too. Ill let everybody know as soon as I hear something.
Foster Mon & Non De Plume:
Thank you for the thoughtful replies. It's refreshing to get something that isn't an attack for a change.
Plume, you may recall what I said about a "level playing field." I've never been afraid to go head-to-head with the two you-know-who, but not when they control a forum. It would be even more one-sided than here. Karen has bashed Marina many times as has Jones, whether you agree or not (Nazis, remember?). Yes I have hit a bit below the belt but sometimes you fight fire with fire.
It gets tiresome with bloggers like Alan Smithee saying I never addressed points when I believe I have done so until I was blue in the face. I have been one of the few who have directly taken on the "legal" issue, stating they are still legal in the eyes of the IRS, they forgot to file a simple name update to the State of California which could have been easily remedied, said that there is an honor to signing a contract and weaseling out of it because it's not "legal" is dishonorable, stated they still would probably win in a court of law, that nothing is declared illegal until actually determined in a court of law and that there probably never will be a legal challenge because Ellen's walked away from it. Nor has anybody addressed Marina's exemplary history of dog rescue which Marina-haters don't want to hear anyway.
All these words no longer amount to a hill of beans. Everybody's talking and nobody's listening over a totally dead issue. I'm going to try once again to tear away from it. It's just hard to fight one's curiosity and not access this site and get sucked in again. But I'll try again. Besides, my real life is getting extremely busy lately.
So my hopefully final response to everybody is
"whatever."
Bob G, Perhaps you remeber when I used to post as well. I stated my opinions and like you, was often attacked and challenged for those views. I dont really post anymore as the conversations often repeat themselves and the insults never stop. I am no longer attacked for my views but I dont feel that what I have to say matters anyway. I decided to go to the site that is about animal rights and post there. Since it is new there arent many people yet, but I think it could turn out to be a good thing. Im sure they will be debates but it isnt about Ellen and Iggy anymore. There are issues like animlal abuse and a place for wonderful OR sad adoption stories. I am going to give it a chance regadless of who may be the moderator. If the rules are applied fairly, there should be non of this nonsense there. I have agreed with a lot of what you have said and I hope you will consider coming and saying your peace there. I would like to discuss the issues with you as I think you care a lot about animals and probably have some great suggestions to offer about rescue. If you arent confortable yet, I would be willing to return here temporarily to discuss rescue issues with you.
Bob g,
You stated that you would not go to this forum as you think its run by Karen who posted here at one time. And you have claimed her posts as of late to be hate filled. I beg to differ with you there sir.
Ive seen her past posts get a little nasty, but not as nasty as yours. I saw her coming here to support Ellen , not to bash Marina. But point out facts that she saw them.
I have no idea if this forum is run by her, nor does it make a difference to me. And it really shouldnt matter to you either, unless you dont want to because you cant get the bad taste out of your mouth for her personally.
Personally I think whoever this Karen is had a good idea and ran with it. Unlike others here who choose to fight over the issues at hand and take personal attacks on other, and do nothing but throw insults at one another on Ellens blog.
And also your comment about jones being on there , thats why you dont want to go there and debate this issue. I see that as being a little childish, dont you. Its like " oh no jones is there , im not going there, I dont want to talk to him, he's mean mommy". So what if jones is there, if you can keep a civil tongue , then maybe you could see the some things you have in common and maybe become good advosaries from this whole experience.
Its your choice , im just pointing out some things I see both in you and Aces.
I do hope that you change your mind as I would love to see your views on some of the other issues that have been brought there and posted by other registered members.
I have not , as of yet , posted anything there. I have not had the time. I will however do so, if you care to read my posted comments.
If not I wish you good luck here, with peace love and harmony. I shall not be posting here again, as it is not needed.
Peace out
Bob G,
Once again you claim the high road falsely.
I made a pointed statement on this board yesterday and listed many points, none of which you have responded to.
Mr/Ms Jones defended my position, and even attempted to explain my allegory to the simple minded so-called "troll" known currently as Aces, and continued to call you out with no response. As of this moment, you whine and claim the victim, and again I remind the readers here that,it is you, Bob G, who repeatedly takes cheap shots and attempts to discredit those who disagree with you by claiming they do not know what they are talking about, rather than responding to the actual arguments.
You are still spouting lies, Bob G, since you make false claims here and ignore such facts such as it is you who continues to sustain and escalate hostilities. This much maligned jones et al has only responded to your hostile attacks, and never initiated them as far as I have seen, but has been blindsided by you and others repeatedly.
Sounds like you wish to rule the roost and dish it out but retreat and whimper and claim the victim when the tables are turned,
You likened two of your opponents to violent felons, Bob G, on this blog. This is something I have not seen done to you, yet you claim to be the injured party.
You now claim that Mr/Ms jones should respond to your arguments, when it is appears that this individual is no longer posting. It is also apparent that he/she has already rebutted your position, and your silence has been deafening. You also refuse to repeat your arguments just as you refuse when jones and others repeat theirs and you are nowhere in sight. Again, you have failed to respond to my post yesterday, and I will not repeat it so you can ignore it again.
Yes, Bob G, you never addressed a single point I raised, since you only discuss the well chosen points that support your prejudiced and mean spirited vindictave position in this matter. You disgust me by talking out of both sides of your face.
There are many that I know that share my position who refuse to comment in this format thanks to polluters like you.
Most of the associates I refer to argue for a living, as I have done, and will not willingly engage at the level that you and other foul mouthed fools maintain on this forum which ironically is provided by the Ellen TV show.
The name changing "troll" currently known as "Aces" is obviously an unbalanced and impaired individual and gets a pass.
But you, Bob G appear to intentionally throw out red herring issues while deftly avoiding the actual issues you apparently have no answer for.
Your actions are despicable, when you continue to assault those embracing all sides and seeking debate and resolution in this matter which, after all, is all about the welfare of a young puppy. I see that my post regarding ethical arguments was re-posted anonymously yesterday. Perhaps you might benefit from this brief tutorial, Bob G, if you have any interest at all in fair and productive debate. Thus far, it appears you have no interest whatsoever in such fair and honorable interaction, but rather that you come here to disseminate bitterness and half-truths.
Enjoy your one sided responses, I will be back at work and shall not be here to suffer the slings and arrows of your vitriolic onslaught.
My challange to you yesterday remains unanswered, Bob G.
If you were not a cowardly prevaricator, you most certainly would have offered a rebuttal by now, as any sincere gentleman would have done.
Nom De Plume:
To begin, except for a brief foray as Sigmund which I owned up to, my name has never changed on this site. I came early to this site to balance the overwhelmingly negative views toward Marina. I felt I had just as much right to my views as anyone, and if the Ellen people didn't like it, they could ban me. Even Mr. Jones and Karen would have to admit that I have been very courteous and thoughtful at times to them.
Lately I'm sick and tired of the hateful and nasty responses, many of them totally ignoring the points I made, and then accusing me of not seeing the other side. They were nasty to me so I have gotten nasty too, but I never descended into name-calling like Jones who initially called me an SOB. Yes, I've gotten personal in-so-far as picking apart their arguments and throwing their comments back in their faces. They can dish it out, but they can't take it. They went ballistic when I suggested their hate-filled comments were in the same league as those who made death threats.
So now you challenge me to go to this other site. If I choose not to, you've already characterized me as not a fair debater on an equal playing field. So I took a look at this site, and the first name I came across was "Karen." If this moderator is the same "Karen aka newest Ellen fan" that has posted here, then I do not consider it an equal playing field. For some time now, she has posted some of the nastiest, hate-filled remarks of anyone at this site, and that was even when I was arguing this courteously. Karen has purported herself to be an expert in legal matters and personal matters regarding Marina using half-researched factoids and negative characterizations against Marina---anything to twist the truth and support Karen's agenda. She has been vicious to those that disagreed, and I don't mean to just the moronic crazies that have posted. If she is that site's moderator and Mr. flying monkey Jones posts there, then there is no hope for a reasoned debate. The site is a sham.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Ok Aces and Bob,
Care to take this discussion somewhere where your name cant be changed so easily? Where the conduct that you both have shown recently is not allowed. And has many more topics other than just Iggy and Ellen.
If so I request your presence at the said forum, that jones provided to this blog and its patrons.
If you choose not to , that is your right and your choice. But to me it just means that you do not wish to debate this fairly and on an equal playing field.
And that is fine with me. My moniker on there is the moniker I use here, with the exceptions of spaces.
Hope to see you there
Peace out
Aces:
You're talking to brick walls. Considered reasoning won't work. That's because the Marina Bashers and Ellen lovers are one and the same. Ellen can do no wrong, so it must be Marina's fault. Anybody who disagrees is automatically an Ellen hater/Marina lover.
Just to quote the top of this column:
"Ellen thanks her fans for all their sympathy, urges restraint, and hopes for a happy outcome."
Not if they can help it!
By the way folks, has anybody put their money where their mouth is and sued to get Iggy back? Hmmm? Talk is cheap.
Nom de Plume:
I would love for you to prove to me that I have been here attacking Ellen Supporters. That is such hogwash and its insulting. Ellen supporters are not my attention, Marina bashers have been. I actually like Ellen, and I would bet the farm on the fact that she is not grateful to those who use her name in their efforts towards insulting, attacking, and degrading other people regardless if they can see Marina's position.
I have zero ill feelings towards you except that I am bothered that you have accused me of things that are not true.
My intentions have been that I did not think it was appropriate to brand Marina a criminal with PURE SPECULATION. When I have stated this to Jones he has insulted very personally without any real substance. The source of these said facts are relevant to these claims. And if all these accusations that have been tossed around this forum are based on Internet sites; I find that to be distasteful to say the least. I have never claimed to know more than I know. I have simply conserved my branding to the ACTUAL FACTS that we do know.
Jones:
You have shown your true colors in your last blogs, but ultimately you're tiresome. If you ever cared to take the time to read, I have pointedly addressed your legal points many times over. I'm not writing them again. Go back and read, then return to discuss it with me.
Nom de Plume:
I don't know who you think I am, but I have NEVER COMMENTED ON ELLEN and whether or not she should be adopting animals. The only comment I have ever made about her is my disproval for taking this public. An action I am sure she herself now regrets. Perhaps a little condescention has been warranted your way as you have now twice directly made inaccurate claims about me.
Simply because Jones has commented about Marina and compassion, he has equally times insulted her with slants like tilted and dog napper and countless others that I could retrieve if you wanted. Look no further than his Nazi remarks. If you are a genuine person—and when I stated the peace comment I was being serious as it came with a warning to stop speaking my opinions here—than how do you fail to see the malarkey that has been going on here?
You seem quite sure of my guilt and already you have misrepresented me twice. Jones has not been descent towards Marina or anyone who has cared to defend her. The few comments he has made about peace and forgiveness do not dismiss the countless other degrading and quite inappropriate claims and insults he has made.

to P.E.T, I dont think it was a mistake at all. Ellen is a seasoned prefessional and I cant imagine she wouldnt read a contract before she signed it. Second, I understand that she makes a habit of getting animals and then giving them away. They arent shoes that you try on and give away when you decide they dont fit. I have seen people write in on on this blog (or it was the other site "IGGY") and ask her whatever happened to: and then list about 5 dogs she adopted yet doesnt still have. Where did they go??? Yeah, you get a lot of special treatment when you are a celebrity, but the dogs deserve better. They have a bad enough life before they are rescued, they dont need to be passed around even more. This was no accident. It was just another case of a shoe that didnt fit......
