Help 5-year-old golf prodigy and cancer survivor Kyle Lograsso raise money for Eye Tumor Research.
Click here to help! This message is for Ellen and Kyle. It would be almost impossible for me to overstate how grateful my family is for Kyle having appeared on the Ellen show.
Seven weeks ago my wife and I were downloading from our camera some pictures of our 10-month-old daughter Talia. In a few of the pictures we noticed a white speck in her eye but didn't pay much attention to it. We emailed some photos to our parents and later that day my mother-in-law called us to tell us that we should have Talia's eye examined by a doctor. Her ONLY basis for this was that she had seen Kyle on the Ellen show and that his retinoblastoma was discovered in the same manner. Sure enough, and unfortunately, we went to the hospital and it was confirmed that Talia was suffering from retinoblastoma as well. Talia had her eye removed three days later.
My wife and I had absolutely no idea that Talia had anything wrong with her eye. Had my mother-in-law not seen that episode of Ellen, it may have gone undiscovered and I can't bear to think of what could have happened.
Please accept our sincere gratitude for being vocal about retinoblastoma and, quite possibly, saving the life of our little girl.
This message is for Kyle's parents,
I just wanted to let you know that I think you two have and are doing a WONDERFUL job with Kyle. He is so adorable, sweet, and funny. I have a daughter who is three who has undergone ten surgeries in her short life. It is not easy being the parent of a child with special needs in any way. I understand some of what you've gone through, though our situation is different - they all are.
My daughter and I are getting close to the end of the tunnel, finally. From there we will face more challenges because she is developmentally delayed also, but at least we know she'll live. We are ready. It's amazing the inner strength that God gives us so that we can deal with what comes at us every day.
I read a story a while ago about Kyle and his sister (he put his eye in her cereal as a joke). It is wonderful that he has a great sister that loves him and is there for him too.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you are wonderful parents, have a wonderful family and a very, very special son in Kyle. I will always keep him in my prayers and if you are all ever in Orlando, I would love to meet you and talk to you. You probably have a wonderful support group around you, but mine is very, very small, as my family lives in NY as staying home with my daughter has severely limited my social life. I have an eight year old stepson who is very sweet and loving and would love to play with Kyle.
As for the lady who said Ellen didn't dance with the lady in the wheelchair, so what? You weren't there during the commercial breaks to see what went on when the cameras weren't rolling. What if the lady requested that Ellen didn't dance with her? My twin sister has been in a wheelchair basically since birth and would not expect special treatment because she's in a wheelchair. She wants to be treated like everyone else. At least that lady got in to see Ellen. I have not had the privilege yet and probably never will, since I live in Orlando and cannot travel very easily.
Ellen is the greatest! I love her and believe in her sincerity.
I totally disagree with Kay. I have seen you make a point of dancing with people in wheelchairs. If you missed one, I am certain it was not intentional. Due to cancer, my husband is now in a wheelchair for going out, he cannot stand or walk long. The Disability Act has a long way to go. Until you walk in someone's shoes, you do not understand what they go through. There are so many things not available to wheelchairs, it is really not fair. We ate at a restaurant that had several handicapped parking spaces outside, but once you entered there were steps in every direction to a table, a person in a wheelchair could not have gotten to a table to eat.
Keep up the wonderful work you do for the little people of our nation, the ones who simply are here and doing their best to live their lives. They are not trying to be heros, simply trying to survive.
Kyle, you are amazing! Having one eye will definitely not hold you back. My son lost his left eye due to an accident at 14, but was determined to still play ice hockey. His first game back he scored two goals! He is also a very good golfer. I have no doubt that you will be able to conquer whatever you encounter in your life. Best of luck! The Parishs'
ellen, the handsome lil Kyle, may his dreams become BIG for him to his days of golfing. Very giving of you to give him his new golf cart, all about him. Good luck to you, Kyle. Enjoy all your days ahead. brenda
hello I was watching your thurs program and saw that gorgeous little guy and how he can swing a golf club. I would also like to purchase one of his bracelets but could not find any info on them. Please could someone get that info back to me. Ellen I think you are a ray of sunshine, I think you should have been the new host for the price is right, you have agreat show..
thankyou for any info on the bracelets for Kyle and here's a x and o for him.
Sincerely, Linda Crown
I was looking forward to seeing the show with Kathy Griffin, only to find out that it seemingly had been pre-empted in New York by the 9-11 ceremony. I am wondering if it was shown elsewhere in the country, or if it was shown at another time in the NYC area. Or, if it will be repeated on a cable network in the near future.
The show was fabulous. I love it when you feature talented kids like this young man. You do realize how many times that golf scene will be played 15 to 20 years from now when he becomes the next Tiger Woods. I hope he watches and writes to this little guy. Very inspiring for a show on a tough date in our history. Thank you Ellen.
A comment for Kay, I have never missed an episode of Ellen and she does not ignore her fans in wheelchairs. I have seen her dance with many of them. If that was all you got out of the show, I feel sorry for you. Follow Ellen's advice and try to look for the positive side of things.
Ellen, I was watching you today and was very upset with you. You enjoy dancing around so much and dancing with the audience, but yet you pay no attention to the less fortunate that come to see you. There was a lady in a wheelchair in the front row today. You did not even acknowledge that lady, but you would dance with the people. This is not the first time this has happened. You do so many good things for people and I have sang your praises many times, but I am starting to doubt your sincerity. I have thought so much of you, please don't do what so many host have and are doing. I have quit watching many talk shows because of the way they think they are! Please take this to heart Ellen. It makes my heart hurt to see this, because I am disabled as those people are. Thank you Ellen for your time. I hope you really read this.

Dear Kyle (and family),
I just saw some videos of you on YouTube, and on Ellen. You are an amazing boy! It makes me so happy to see you doing so well! You remind me so much of my son Mack. Mack just turned 7, and he loves golf too. He started playing after I had bought Mario Golf for his GameBoy. Just like you, all he wants to do is play golf!
Just like you, Mack has something that he is working to overcome. He has a significant language disorder, which makes it hard for him to understand and follow directions. He also has a hard time speaking sentences correctly. He is really good at math, reading, art and everything else, but has trouble understanding speech. He needs a lot of extra help. It’s like a form of deafness, but it’s inside his brain and not his ears. He is also on a special diet because he has some food allergies. Sometimes this makes Mack sad because he says his “brain is broken”, but playing golf makes him feel good, and he is really good at it!
I saw that you are always playing golf in your yard. Mack does too! He comes home off of the school bus and starts practicing right away and plays all the way until dinner time. We are hoping to send him to golf camp for a week later this month. It’s funny because Mack’s dad and I don’t play golf, just like your parents when you started. Now we are trying to learn.
I think it’s great that you are trying to help other kids with retinoblastoma. You are amazing (not to mention very handsome!) I wonder if maybe Mack can do something someday to help kids with language disabilities. I know he was born to make a difference somehow, just like you.
Keep up the good work,
Christine Hanisco
